Bolstered by my first attempt at PlastiDip ...http://www.fordraptorforum.com/f5/decided-do-something-about-only-piece-exterior-chrome-our-trucks-12951/#post190641

I decided to take on a new project today. The chrome bezels around the shifter and cupholder. Yeah... I know... the shifter still has chrome on it. I need to figure out what to do with that.

Anyway... on to the pics!

Oh... I did the mirror reflectors, too.

After an alcohol wipe we were ready to go!

Here's a progress pic.

And installed.

As always, cheers AND jeers are encouraged.

Looks great. I really don't like the chrome interior parts, yours look so much better. Are you considering doing the door handles and shifter somehow?

Bo- Yes... I am. I am just not sure what the proper media is. The reason why I chose to plasti dip these parts was so I could see what it would look like if I made the change permanent... and if I didn't like it.... just peel it off.

I really like it. So once the plasti dip starts to wear... I'll just sand and shoot the parts with paint.

The shifter and handles present a challenge in that they are high wear items. I would think they need something more durable than plasti dip or paint. I am just not sure what that product is.

I saw somwhere on here where someone did some kind of liquid wrap or something. Wonder how that stuff holds up?

How hard was it to take off the reflectors from the mirrors? And is plasti dip available at places like ace? I really want to black those out.

nice work. I want to do the same thing soon. Do the chrome pieces there just snap out? Just use a flathead or what?

They just snap out. The easiest thing to do is to pop the whole center console up.

First pop up the upfitter switch housing by pulling up and toweards you on the rear of the switch assembly.

You'll then have a nice rectangular opening to grab ahold of.

And just pull up. The whole thing just pops up. It makes accessing the tabs that holds the bezels in place much easier.

If you need tools, you're doing it wrong!
