MISFIRE CODE? SPD Performance may have found a simple fix.

SPD Performance has fixed the misfire code issue on 2 trucks. We replaced the factory spark plugs with Motorcraft SP542 (cold plugs) which we spaced at .028.

Installing time is 30-45 minutes. SP542 plugs MUST be respaced to .028 - .030, but make sure they are all the same spacing. They will come in with a larger spacing.

P/N SP542
Ford P/N CYFS092YPT
6 spark plugs are required.

This misfire code seems to happen more frequently after installing aftermarket intake systems but has also plagued 100% stock trucks as well.

Hope this helps you guys. Please send me feedback to [email protected].

Step #38 From the whipple stage 1 kit also states to close the spark plug gap to .025'' should this should be done no matter what or only if mods are done to produce more air flow.

Remove factory spark plugs. Close the stock gap to .025”. Failure to close the gap may result in horsepower variance and possible misfire.

SP534 spark plugs are running too hot.

The closest we are gapping tuned 11-16 ecoboost trucks are .026. The coils on the 2017-18 Raptors are better so a gap of .028 on the SP542 would be fine.

Whipple does extensive testing and they say .025. Guess it’s each his own.

Tuners will gap the 11-16 F-150 3.5 to .025 when they are pushing 21-22psi of boost. This prevents spark blow out.

The 17-18 Raptors have stronger coils. Gap of .028 will work for a stock or tuned truck.

More details please on the coil change. Tasca parts lists the same part number for a 2015 3.5 EB and a 2017 3.5 Raptor EB ignition coil. BL3Z-12029-C. Same price as well.

2015 EB: https://www.tascaparts.com/auto-par...as-engine/electrical-cat/ignition-system-scat

2017 HO EB: https://www.tascaparts.com/auto-par...as-engine/electrical-cat/ignition-system-scat

The coils are a different part number for the Gen2 3.5 Ecoboost Motors.

2017+ F-150 & Raptor 3.5 Ecoboost Coil P/N HL3Z-12029-A

2015-2016 F-150 3.5 Ecoboost Coil P/N BL3Z-12029-C

Will the Genuine Ford Motorcraft OEM Iridium Spark Plugs SP-542 CYFS092YPT be compatible with 17-18 MY? When trying to order, it is saying not compatible.
