As a kid I built a go cart with a used free Sears stick welder, 50 cent tape measure, $2 hacksaw, and used steel.
Not too distant to my current fabrication methods, just a lot more accomplished at it now.

Keep us updated on your project Mouldman.

The one thing I wish I would have done different is used big enough tubing to go from outside to outside of the actual D-rings rather than just the D-ring holder. The 1" 11ga works great but my tote is just a little big for the center and would be fine other than my D-rings hit the side of it and it drives me nuts.

Mock it up in the bed and it will save you time. It took me one afternoon to get it laid out and tacked up.

Here are a few pics of my custom rack. The only advice I would provide in addition to what others have offered...when your done, Line-X it...rattlecan paint will not hold up...trust me!

So here's the base, configuring for 2 spares and 2 NATO style 5 gallon gas containers. I'm going to wait to get my spare and I've ordered the containers to start fitting, so far a great start!

Why 2 bars in the middle? Wouldn't it be better to have only 1 less weight?
Or is there a reason for it?

No reason. The way i have it now i've allowed extra room for the tires and gas containers, so that gap may get larger...1 bar is a better ideal though! thanks!
