Low oil reading on dip stick

I have a 2019 and I am taking it in tomorrow to get new valve covers installed due to excessive oil consumption.

How many milled on yours? Do you see visible oil leaks? I don’t have any oil leaks.

Not trying to scare you or say it is the valve covers at all, but others did mention they didn't see any oil there and the dealer ended up changing the valve covers anyway (saying they were leaking), along with that tsb repair. I guess just watch it at the next oil change and see how it is. It's not severe anyway, there's still oil on the dipstick, you shouldn't lose sleep at this point.

Did you drive the vehicle to warm everything up, and let it sit for 15 minutes before checking?

Hi All

I have a 2020 with 5,800 miles, at 1,000 miles, I changed the oil using Amsoil 5w-30 100 synthetic signature series. I also use their oil filter. I have a dual catch can and was checking to see if there was any oil and decided to check the engine oil. I found the dipstick read slightly below half. There was very little oil in the door catch can, not even enough to mention. Is this normal for a Raptors to burn oil? I did a quick Google search and read that the oil level should be at the halfway mark between the two dots on the dipstick. Anybody care to comment?

It is funny that you posted this, I have a 2020 like you with 3500 miles. I changed my oil/filter at 2500 miles and switched everything over to AMSOIL. I checked my oil this past weekend and my dip stick was low like yours. My driveway is on a slant/hill, so I can't really check the oil while at home. I put half a quart in it and will see if I need to put more. AMSOIL is very difficult to burn off, which is why it is great for turbo applications. I was shocked to see it so low because I drained a full 6 quarts out and know I put a full 6 quarts in.

It went 4800 miles and burned 1/2 quart. That's perfectly fine..

Turbo engines use a bit of oil. Turbocharger piston rings (the shaft "seals") are never perfectly sealed, piston clearances and ring end gaps can not be as tight as an NA engine, etc.

Also, recirculated catch cans rarely end up holding on to very much oil. The turbo inlets and intake manifold make enough vacuum to pull a good amount of it straight through the catch can.

Thanks for chiming in. It will be interesting to monitor our oil consumption. I change my own oil, so I’m wondering if Ford what are you been consider monitoring my oil consumption and less I allow them to change the oil at the next interview and then monitor from there

Yea, I do everything myself too. I don't like letting anyone touch my vehicle unless I have too. So my truck is going to have to burn a lot of oil before I let Ford lay hands on it. Keep me updated how your truck does and I'll let you know how mine does.

This is not a valid method of determining if oil has been consumed; only that the oil level is within the acceptable range. The Owner's Manual states that after waiting 15 minutes, any oil reading between the upper and lower mark is acceptable, and specifically states DO NOT add oil if the level is within range. This is because all of the oil has not fully drained back to the crankcase.

The only way to accurately verify the total amount of oil in the crankcase is to check it after the vehicle has sat overnight. I would recommend OP verify his oil level using this method to determine if any oil has actually been consumed.

I have about 25K miles and no visible oil leaks. I read the TSB and if there are visible oil leaks, they say the Technical Service Bulletin does not apply.
