Both engines are good, but there is a reason the 6.2 became standard.

The 2010s have had rear axle problems when off roaded. Ask if they have ever been replaced. The replacement ones have a better design.

Also, some are experiencing some tranny leaking on the bell housing. Right around 50 to 60K miles.

The 2010's are the only ones that can do a brake-stand burnout. :tizzle:

All of the others limit the engine RPM when your foot is on the brake.

That was only on the early 5.4 models (before the 6.2 was even available) - it was a manufacturing issue. Ford had a bad batch of axles. The design was not changed during the 2010 MY, and I have heard of no issues on 2010's with the 6.2.

I thought madcow was the only one having any issues. Are there others?

I don't know if it is engine specific. WSI blew his rear axle, he has a 6.2. One of the RPG trucks at TRR 12 blew one. Warsurfer blew his at havoc. Don't know the engine of the last two.

As for the tranny, I think there have been others. Again, WSI. I think Whtrap, and some others. Seeing the fluid has been from multiple causes. Didn't Pirateair say his was from a loose bolt?

I guess I should have stated that none of these are chronic problems. But at least some thing to consider when looking to buy.

I had a 2010 5.4 my only complaint was the transmission. It was one of the first new 6 speeds and it SUCKED!!! If you are considering a early model make what I would do is drive it at 35-45 mph and do a 3/4 throttle press to get it to kick down into lower gears. Like as if you wanted to pass a slow driver. The down shift on mine and many others feels like you got hit in the ass. I had mine in 3 times for a megatronics(aka..trans valvebody) change and it never helped. It is much worse in colder weather also. My 2012 ins a day and night difference

6.2 2010 = WIN!!!

There is no better year IMO and I would not trade mine for a newer year - when it comes to offroading. The others get fancier, but the 6.2 2010's overall have a great track record. Keep looking (including nationwide). Welcome & Good Luck!
