Looking for Morimoto XB headlight installation video

8mm gear wrench works best
Thanks for the detailed info on how to aim the lights. I had read this before, and found a video online at one point, so that all makes sense. What is a “gear wrench”, though? Just making sure I have the correct tools I’ll need once I do my install.

I got my Morimotos installed over the weekend. It was all pretty straight forward. Once you remove the unnecessary resistor packs, the wiring is simplified a lot compared to the way they come out of the box, and it's very easy to figure out what goes where.

However, one question...do anyone else's headlights quickly flash off/on when the truck starts itself up again after the auto start/stop shuts the engine off? I'm not sure if it's something to do with using fuse 14, or what...

Im on 14 as well and have not run into the flashing you're describing. Are you running a 15A below the 10A fuse on your micro tap? I followed the @4x4TruckLEDs.com pic they posted of their set up and it was the ONLY place i saw that step added. I couldn't get the lights to work properly until i swapped the 10A fuse with the 15A fuse from the factory location.

I couldn't get the lights to work properly until i swapped the 10A fuse with the 15A fuse from the factory location.
I took out the 15A spare fuse that was in slot 14 (it's essentially just a fuse holder since slot 14 wasn't used for anything) and put the micro fuse tap in there with the 2 10A fuses that came with it. I suppose I could have pulled one of the 10A fuses and put it in my spare fuse box in the cab to avoid confusion, but didn't think about it at the time. Either way, I'm still only using the 10A fuse that came with the fuse tap. I can't see how switching to the 15A fuse would cause a difference, though. It's basically acting like the power from that fuse drops for a fraction of a second as the truck restarts. I forget...is that fused basically used for the startup sequence? I could pull the fuse and try the auto start/stop and see what happens then, right?

I wish i knew more to say if it actually makes a difference or not. Just thinking about how i have mine set up to replicate the proper functions.

You are correct, that fuse tap is used for the DRL/Start Up sequence.

I went a different route and used the corner side marker as a switch for a relay with fused power off the battery.

This works:

Using a 4-pin relay
30 - Fused 5a wire to battery positive
85 - Ground (black wire) from Side Marker
86 - Positive (blue wire from Side Marker
87 - DRL wire

I just installed mine today this was a great post. Did you also have a connector with a black and white wire that had no mate? I haven't tapped any fuses yet (will try 14 tomorrow),but everything else for me works.

glad the install went well. Thanks for pointing out the DRL connector as that was the sam on mine and forgot to mention that.

For aiming the lights do the following at night or in a dark warehouse/building:
-Find a level ground with a wall/door/building you can shine the headlights on. Needs to be flat, not corrugated as that will impact the beam cutoff line. If rough concrete or stone that is fine as the line is still easily discernible.
-Measure out 25’ from wall/door/building and this is where you will position truck with the front of the headlights at this position
-Measure from ground to halfway up headlight face, write this measurement down. This works just fine or you can use the little circle on the headlight face as that is the axis reference mark.
-Take some painters tape and on the wall/door/building put tape horizontal to the ground with the top edge of the tape being at the height from the ground that you wrote down in the previous step.
-Open hood, turn headlights on (obviously), and using the adjuster ”bolt”, 8mm gear wrench works best, adjust the driver’s side headlight until the top line of the light is right at the top line of the tape.
- For passenger headlight you I’ll do the same but you want the top cutoff line to be 2” higher than the tape and driver’s side headlight.
-Driver’s headlight is set at tape to reduce blinding oncoming traffic (depending on height of truck). Passenger headlight is set higher to light up road signs so they are visible in a usable way while driving.

On the Morrimoto XB I don’t remember if raising was clockwise or counterclockwise, but you will figure it out very quickly.

Addendum #1 - Fog lights in Raptor bumper that you want to use in traffic (SAE style) use 30’ instead of 25’ and the rest of the steps are the same
- other off road lights the Measurements vary greatly depending on the beam pattern and I just aim to what makes sense and provides the best visibility.

Hope this helps. If you want a more scientific explanation of the above then refer to Daniel Stern Lighing as this is what the above instructions are simplified from. I have used his methods for years with great success.

After completing the alignment, 44in on the wall at 25ft, I feel it’s a bit high and there’s no need for the brights. Anyone else have this experience? Passed two people coming at me on the text drive and nobody flashed me.
Out of curiosity, do you have quite a bit of lift on your truck, and larger tires than stock? I'm running Eibach springs with stock tires on my 2019, and it's about 39.5" to the center of my Morimotos (34" to the bottom, and 45" to the top). Your 44" measurement sounds high to me, but maybe I'm just sagging a LOT in front... :eek:IMG_1283.jpg
