What the lift included is still a mystery to me but everything else was stock

I stuck my head in the wheelwell. What the lift included was different springs. Or they kept one or more of the original leaves, turned it into a full leaf pack, and got rid of the block. If they kept one of the leaves, they could call it an "adjustment" without telling an outright lie. You could probably approximate what they did with Eibachs and Deavers.

I keep seeing threads on airbags and there are replies that say "it limits travel" but between either long travel airbags or leaving them free floating when not in use, it seems like they would not hurt travel a ton.

I could regularly use these. I have to haul 1000# of deer protein and a trailer with Ranger on it every weekend during hunting season. It squats like a slav. After I unload it, I drive around our ranch and the dirt roads all weekend. This would be a great solution to my problem. I just have held off due to the "limits travel" claims.

I say both side have a good point. Also I DID buy my Raptor for the BADASS look and bragging rights. Being from the Bay Area, we don't have any off road place you could go unless you drive 3-5 hrs out of town. That being said, the only trips I'll do is winter time skiing, summer time camping ( not deep into the woods camping, just campsite camping). But I have set up my truck for overland with bed rack, RRt and everything else. WHY? because I can! I, most likely going to install the airbag system because I only need to level the back when me and the family load up to go skiing or camping, all the other time I won't need it just to go to work or picking up milk at the mall ( But I look badass going into my Raptor with a gallon of nonfat milk!! ). I agreed with pbtjrmrt, you have to set up the suspension to your individual needs.

This is absurd logic. So if i don’t daily my Raptor (i.e. then only use it for off-roading) that is somehow better?? In that case, it might only have a few thousand miles but all would be on dirt or going to/from the trail?

I only use my windshield wipers a few times a year. Probably < 1% of the time. Maybe I don’t need those either?

Also, miles aren’t a great metric. I do some rough 4WD trails that take hours but I only make it a handful of miles. 4 miles offroad/4K miles on the truck. Hours might be better.


I buy stuff to have it when I need it, not all the times I don’t. Maybe this is what we should look at. Or, you should cancel your insurance because you only use that like 0.01% of the time??

You are way off base on a few things here.

1. original post wasn't about a truck being better if it is or is not daily driven. quite frankly I give no *****.

2. yes miles are a great metric

3. the cancel insurance comment was simply stupid. oh and the windshield wiper comment.

oh and I'm one of those guys that bought this truck

1. Because it's fast
2. Because I love the stance, 6 inches wider only available on the raptor
3. love the aggressive grill
4. short bed fits in my garage
5. Because I felt like it and love my toys

It will probably get almost no actual off roading done. But If I get the opportunity, sure I'm all for that.

Bottom line is my vast majority of driving is just everyday type stuff, not 4x4 baja shit. Just like most truck owners.

So for me, don't even need the rear air bags, but it's a far better option than 1k new springs

I’m with you other than the garage. I got room for the longer one but not the height. Damn basement garages in Steel country. I like the short truck because it looks better and performs better where I use it: parking lots.

I have these installed with Daystar cradles. They allow me not to attach the bags at both ends so they don’t impact the factory suspension (to my knowledge). But when I pull my boat I can inflate the bags and they set into the cradles and lift the rear perfectly. Had a local fab shop customize the brackets so that this will work.

Are the brackets something any reasonably skilled shop could do? This sounds like the setup I'd want once I get my RV (small TT).

Yep. I have the air bags with cradle system. They work great. Still works in the dez just
fine.

Where did you source your airbags and cradles, SSWIM?

I agree with you, but I'm calling BS on this. Again. I looked that truck over in Tooele. It had completely different springs on the rear, a full pack with no block, and I'd swear that the whole truck sat an inch or two higher. Here are the corporate weasel words from your article: "The factory-spec Raptor springs and Fox Racing shocks were adjusted to accommodate the added weight from the safety cage and fuel cell."
