So like many I had found myself well over 50 K (67,500) without having had my live valves rebuilt. Having no luck finding a live valve rebuild “how to”, it only made sense to schedule with TSW to do an exchange being they are more complicated to disassemble than the older blue units.

The truck is a 2020 with Deaver +2 HDs out back with an otherwise OE suspension. And looking through their rebuild selections, I chose their Bravo valving (adjusted for the HD leafs), TSW (RPG) zero lift top hats, schrader valves, Viton seals and shaft polishing. I’ll let you look up costs, as it will, of course vary with your selections.

The scheduling is made pretty simple on their website. If you’er local like me, you pick a date to bring yours in and switch them out, or if not local, you can pay a core charge and have a set shipped out to you in advance.

TSW is full service though and would be more than happy to R&R the units for you. They do everything from long travel, five link, to include simple routine scheduled maintenance.

When I called, I was greeted by Alex who is one of the owners. He was very knowledgeable and patient with all my questions. Based on my goals he guided me towards my above selections to meet my individual needs. Matter of fact, every employee I bumped into was extremely courteous, helpful, and seemed generally enthusiastic about assisting all customers. You generally don’t see that kind of enthusiasm elsewhere these days.

So I won’t bore anyone with details but tear down for the front is as easy as unbolt the live valve solenoid, Abs/brake/live valve lines, tie rod, upper ball joint, lower shock bolt, 3 upper coilovers bolts, and a good heave ho and the front is out. Rear is live valve solenoid/line, upper, and lower shock bolt and rear shock is out.

After watching the Raptor Baja run videos and seeing OE top hat failures (center rubber bushing failure under full extension), I decided a little extra NVH for the sake of durability was worth it. TSW partnered with RPG for aluminum, spherical joint top hats to reduce a somewhat common failure when really pushing OE ish suspension. The hats can use both the OE Gen 2 top hat bolts or the larger Gen three units (2mm thicker I believe). So again, why not upgrade? They still fit the OE holes in the shock tower so it’s a no brainer to me.

When I walked in, the office was empty, but you could hear the shop was a blaze with air tools. I set my suspension down on the floor. Alex walked out seconds later and walked me into the shop to see my awaiting rebuilds. The shop was full of cool trucks from Starbucks cruisers to Prerunners. However, I’ll leave all that to Alex or whomever else to do a shop review. Here was my interest:
