I don’t know about the Gen2, but my Gen1 tows my 31’ Dutchmen Travel Trailer great. 8000lbs of trailer weight with 1200lbs of hitch weight with the WD hitch. I added Firestone air bags to the rear, which are easily removable if I want to go off road, but are definitely recommended if harming that kind of weight.

Have a picture of that setup? How much does the truck squat?
I don’t have a picture on the phone; but I’ll check the computer tonight. I do have this picture from Elk Hunt last Sep; but the truck is already unhooked.

I can’t seem to get rid of the second picture that was inadvertently uploaded.

Hello all,

I know there are a ton of threads on towing, suspension, and capabilities, but there seems to be varying info ranging from "it cant tow sh*t" to "I'm towing 7k no problem".

I am looking to purchase a camper trailer, and wanted to get some real life feedback from those who have one and their experience.

Please list below:

SCAB or SCREW Raptor
Suspension - 100% stock, or list your mods (specific to towing)
Make/model of camper trailer
Length
Dry weight
Tongue weight
Single or double axle trailer
make/model of weight distribution hitch being used

I have a 2020 SCREW Raptor
100 % stock
Looking to purchase a 21-22ft camper trailer around 4000 pounds, but would like to get a 26-27ft trailer closer to 6000 pounds if I can realistically pull it without issues. Looking at Coachmen and Forest River brands.

Thank you

My gen 2 tows WAY better than my gen 1 did, surprising! HD Deavers in rear, game changer. This is not a small or light tow, and up Highway 18 in So cal, really steep!

With the live shocks it will squat with any heavy tongue weight. Getting a weight distribution hitch helps substantially. Mine is a 2020 super crew / all stock suspension / flatbed trailer with tractor is in the #6000 lb range / Andersen WDH. With these trucks the lighter the tongue weight the better. Once you have the truck trailer close to level (with the WDH) it pulls great. The truck has tons of HP & Torque , just doesn't have the frame / shock setup for heavy towing hope that helps.

The Anderson WDH hitch does not transfer much weight off the rear axle due to its chain-pulling design. Their chains can only pull so much weight off compared to the heavy bars found on Equalizers or Blue Ox WDHs. Your tractor is loaded correctly with the majority of the weight in the back, but a travel trailer will have 10-15% of its weight on the tongue by design. I talked to Anderson and they admitted their hitch is lightweight and convenient to store, but it was not designed for medium to heavy tongue trailers.

I agree the Raptor has plenty of HP and Torque to tow small travel trailers with ease.

Suspension - Deaver +3 because of towing travel trailer
Make/model of camper trailer - 2021 Imagine 23BHE
Length - 23ft, 28 total
Dry weight - 5325#
Tongue weight - 504#
Single or double axle trailer - Double axle
make/model of weight distribution hitch being used - CURT 17500 TruTrack Trunnion Bar Weight Distribution System

Had a 2018, first year 100% stock suspension, 26' travel trailer, similar weight, the tail wagged the dog. Even had sway control kick in, "took control" and slowed me down from 75mph (18 wheeler passed me) one time the sway was so bad. Second year, with Deavers +3, all was as it should have been, good towing. Traded '18 for '20 (in pic) because of cam phasers (didn't want to go through it again for the third time), switched Deavers into the '20. All is good for towing. In this pic, I also have about 200# of all the time extra weight and an extra 200# of gear. I went from a '14 Tundra and was disappointed with the Raptor's towing until I got the Deavers. For me it wasn't the weight because the WD hitch compensated for most sag. The travel trailer catches a lot of wind and with a soft suspension, it's not good stock for sway. The Deavers, in my opinion are great, towing or not. I also like not having the spacer block with the stock leafs. Of course there's plenty of power and breaking is good for me too. Do the live wire shocks make a difference with the sway, '17, '18 compared to '19, '20? I don't know, I didn't tow without the Deavers in my '20.

Fantastic Camper! We run about 3500 GVWR

Have not been able to tow more than a few times due to Covid. But....after carefully setting up weight Dist. Virtually NO squat or difference from trailer/no trailer.

Pulling Aluminum Trailer with Harley and other motorcyccles...of course no noticeable difference.
