Bummer about the tranny and other issues. Genius for buying Premium Care w/rental car. Repairs on mine have paid for cost several times over. I have a Gen 1 and have had tranny issues twice, first was torque converter leaking, was R&R'd and just had harness R&R'd. Also, A-Arms, ball joints, tie rod ends, heater mixer servo motor, sway bar links and probably other stuff as well i forget. Also just had an extensive rust repair on both rockers at 120K miles that Ford paid 75% of bill for (thank you FORD). Also had Rory rebuild the shocks on my own dime. Keep on em, escalate, write letters, call. Keep Ford on their toes. These are great trucks overall, but they are machines and I do not beat the crap out of mine, but it does get a workout from time to time. PS, I have had several GMC Suburbans that had regular tranny failures and would lose 3rd gear.....BMW's eat suspension parts for lunch, especially bushings. In the final analysis, I will have this truck for a long time to come unless SVT does something with the Bronco and if it looks worth a crap...i really wish i still had my 71.

A gen 1 with problems!? Heresy!

In all seriousness that's a decent list there as is. I am generally unlucky, but I guess not when it comes to my vehicles' powertrains.

A little over a month later here is what it took to fix the transmission. They did provide me a 2018 FX4 with 1000 miles to drive. I guess they stamped the invoice with rental so they could bill Ford for that also.

So far it shifts great and seems to be ok. I was suprised the battery did not have any warranty on it. Its just 2 years old. I would have thought it would have been prorated at least.

51000 miles on it and the transmission just went batshit crazy. It went from 10th to 4th while i was running 70mph. Then it went to 2nd and sounded like it was hit in the ass with a semi truck. Then it immediately went to 7th then to 10th. You could drive it slowly if you put it in Manual and use your thumb to shift it gently. It will hold a gear then shift up or down at random but it seems like it has no brain at all. And it feels like the fluid pressure is maxed out. It will jar the dash out when it does shift.

I have had nothing but weird problems with this truck. I bleed Ford when you cut me. But the only reason I am holding on to it is because the other brands either look like crap or they sound like crap or the are outfitted with the cheapest crap interiors. .

I have had to have my front hubs replaced at 10,000 miles when they were trying to engage while driving down the interstate at 85mph. They lasted 4000 miles and then it started grinding again and then locking in one at a time while driving at highway speeds. I finally just plugged off the vacuum line and ran the truck with the hubs locked in for over 30,000 miles. Mainly because it only made my milage go down a bit to turn the front shafts. And the other reason it because the first time it took them weeks to fix the hubs.

Somewhere around 40,000 miles it would kill the battery overnight. I bought a jump box and kept it in the back floorboard just in case it ever got weak during the day. The dealer said that it must fixed itself but the next day after i picked it up it was dead in my driveway.. However magic must be in the air because after about another week it stopped draining. On the bright side I now I have this nice new jump box/air compressor that I don't leave home without…..

I have had a rear shock to completely discharge. I cant imagine having to carry it to the desert and run it on whoops. It has only been in 4wd a few times when i needed it to back up to a trailer or pull something on soft ground. So it just failed on its own for no reason.

So back to the current problem.

The transmission is dead. The first week they had the truck they changed the "transmission controller" and it didn't fix it. And then they wanted to change the "harness" and that didn't fix it… Now they called and said they pulled the transmission and want to replace the "torque converter"…

This is going to be a freaking month project for them…

And yes…. I was one of the first buyers. I got mine on Dec 31 2016.

And its sitting at Long Lewis Ford in Muscle Shoals.

And its always went there for service.

its vin is 1ftfw1rgxhfa23616

If Ford has a rep that looks over the post with problems I wish they would call Michael in the service department and get them a transmission on the way. They have screwed around with it for way to long.

Find a new dealer... the problem here is not the truck!!! The source of the problem is a dealer with a poor and inexperienced service department! My service department (mind you) of a QuickLane division. Here in the east Ford Dealerships have service departments in the dealership as well as in Quicklanes which are areas or separate buildings that specialize in quick service requests such as oil changes and maintenance and are part of the dealership!!

All of my service needs are performed at a QuickLane of Shakers Family Ford in Naugatuck, CT.. My tech is highly experienced and his expertise is transmissions!!

A job like taking a transmission apart, is done in 3-4 hours max and not like days and weeks as we continue to read in these horror stories through out the forum!!

There is no shortage of parts either!! On my old 2011 Raptor, I also had transmission work done under warranty, and my truck was at the shop max 2 days!!

These truck are great and quality built!! Every issue is fixable!! The issue is if the service department does not have a clue, then you are prone to suffer a “horror experience”.... and thus loose confidence in the brand!!

My advice is to find another dealer even if it is far from your home location!! I live in NYC and travel 80 miles to CT, because I do not trust any dealership in NYC!! As far as I know, they all suck!!
