Just made the appointment. Getting the Bed and Full Undercoat done from Smith's Ultimate Linings in Albuquerque. Just need to decide about the Flares. The paint on the flares seems super easy to scratch. Thats why i'm considering Lining them.

Mine are scratched as hell

My flares are scratched too. Primarily why I've been considerin gettin the Line-X done..

I really like the look of the color-match paint though. But I don't wanna paint em and have em all scratched up again.

And I'm not too convinced that I'd like to color match line-x on a Blue Flame. Haven't seen it done yet... I'd love to see line-x blue photos of FLARES.... no more beds :p

But I don't think anyones man'd up and guinea pigged it yet.

Don't really wanna be that guy and regret it hehe.

Wish I could see em in person too... LineX really doesn't photograph well. And I haven't been so fond of the Blue with black linex flares so far.

As for not getting LineX on the back of the flare.... I am pretty sure I've read most people were having them completely encapsulated in Line-x all around, in order to prevent the flaking and chipping in part due to the linex not gripping the plastic so well.

Also hear lots of stories of broken clips on those flares... and it being difficult to find the appropriate replacements.

Wheel wells

Here is a pic right after I had the flares LineX'd
DSC00521.jpg

And after I had the 2012 side bed graphic installed
DSC00554.jpg

Photographs make the flares look grey, but to the naked eye they appear black

Why the flares and not the wheel wells? I don't mind the look of the flares but hated the badly painted wheel wells exspecaliy on the molten orange! So I had my wheel wells lineX and love how the truck looks now.

For Netix and mprice.. did you have them Line-X the entire flare, meaning the inside edge as well?? I'm getting this done and thinking it through.. also need that info so I can discuss it with the techs in case they don't already understand how to do it.

Thanks,

Looks good ! Now throw some on the flares too so I can see how that looks , hehe

I think for my bed I'll be doing the black Line-X , to tie it in with the inside panel of the tailgate which they do with that black immitation line-x plastic whatever.... If you have the stripper pole (which I do) Plus it'll tie in to the bed rail plastic... And some of the other plans I am thinkin about. (And cheaper). But I really thought long and hard, cuz those blue linex'd beds look really good.

I think yours works even better since you don't have the black tailgate panel.

But since you have some blue linex Willis, How do you think that same color/texture would look on the flares? And how close does it match the body paint?

I just worry about it standing out akwardly on the side of the truck... since they are completely different textures... (The linex with all the bumps) is going to catch a lot of weird lighting and cause a lot of highlights that the rest of the body won't.

I've seen some color matched flares on Hummers and other vehicles, and it's been kind of hit or miss in photos. Hard to say with lighting in a lot of pix.

I like that your photo includes a shaded area and a lit up area though... shows us how it looks in different conditions ;)

I have heard that if you linex the inside they won't fit on properly. Also, the lineX guy who did my fender wells told me that if you only do the outside of the flare you will stand a chance of it peeling over time.
