Ok, if not 2-4 years, I’ll say 6-8 years. AI and all the smart people move a lot faster than what has been done in the past. I’m optimistic on the technology and chemistry. But I’m pessimistic on the infrastructure. I don’t see charging stations and power grids ready for the demand.

There will be substantial advances in electric vehicle technology a lot faster than what we’ve seen historically. When the electric Raptor is ready and I’m done with whatever gas engine Raptor I have, I’ll make the jump.

I was talking about city vehicles only, I should have said that in my post. Trust me, I wouldn’t trade my 36 gal tank for anything. I routinely drive cross country, but understand 10 mile daily routes. I fully understand what you‘re talking about man.

Also a 30 dollar 5gal can from amazon can carry a lot of extra miles….that is not something an electric truck can do.

Hopefully in 6-8 years we’ll move on from this battery fantasy and agree it was a bad idea :)
That’s would be more reality than not if EV had to stand on its own two feet. But the powers that be have way too much money to make and to line their pockets with, and will commit to being wrong than ever admit they are.

For sure. Lately I’ve been toying with the idea of taking my shot on an R, affordability is not the issue but I’m just not sure I can commit to a max range of sub 400 miles. Already have a Shelby to make noise.

Actually there was a huge breakthrough in December of last year, just published. And yes, it’s likely this will be brought to battery tech and manufacturing relatively quickly. 2-4 years is reasonable.

Solid state means:

- more power and range
- lighter weight
- less risk of damage/fire in a wreck and overall
- lower degredation over time (see the attached, 6K cycles retaining 80% capacity)
- more resistance to the recent, very public cold charging issues

This is literally game-changing.

Yes, solid state is not a new concept though. Let’s see that implemented at scale in 2-4 years. One of my primary business customers are lithium mines, they aren’t as optimistic as anyone on this forum about the rate of development. But we’ll see.

For sure. Lately I’ve been toying with the idea of taking my shot on an R, affordability is not the issue but I’m just not sure I can commit to a max range of sub 400 miles. Already have a Shelby to make noise.
Same here, I’ve been calling around again. Range blows, and I’m having flashbacks of my TRX where the loud V8 novelty wore off fairly quickly. I’m still questioning if the juice is worth the squeeze

The EB Raptor is really just a great combo of range, power, and efficiency, good power at altitude, and really can’t be beat for a long range road trip vehicle. The R would be much cooler when I’m tooling around in town, and I love the 5.2, but the fuel consumption is a handicap. If they crammed a 48 gallon tank in there I’d already own one.

To be clear, the Li battery already exists - the breakthrough here is the solid cathode and anode made of lithium metal. The battery is essentially the same. To simplify think of a Duracell battery and you only need to change the ends. This is WAY closer than you seem to realize. You’ll see a car/truck using this way before 4 years. Good news is it’s American innovation, the bad news is Toyota will do it first.

The same Toyota using NiMH in 2024 for their I-Force max?
