Alrighty, hello there! Let’s try this again, haha. New owner, take two intro thread. I posted a hello earlier but I didn’t have photos and I know that didn’t go over well.
Cliff notes - I picked up my dream-to-me truck, a 2013 Ford F-150 Raptor SuperCab. I was hoping for blue or the red/orange color, but I settled for a black truck because I thought the price was right and the condition for the price was good.
Enter the reason why I didn’t have photos before - so after I received the truck, I found a spot of rust that was missed during the PPI. I’m not sure how, but that was this image.
All the goopy mess is because I was not thrilled when I found it and just drenched it with B’laster Surface Shield in my frustration.
Anyways, after a few weeks of looking for a body shop that could fix this (and not a bondo shop, which is most shops around here, and most of these shops didn’t want to take on the time or effort of work that needed welding), I finally found one. Was quoted two weeks, but weeks turned into a month turned into several months. To be fair, I was told that the rust was worse than it had first appeared when we brought it in, and the more they cut away to start welding the more they’d find, which is what took so long. Anyways, that’s why I didn’t have images in my lame duck intro post, didn’t realize it was quite so big a deal around these parts! Haha.
Anyways, I finally got it back on Thanksgiving Day (seriously, this guy is a real worker, was open even on Thanksgiving fixing cars) and, well, here she is.
I had them also treat and coat the undercarriage as well, so almost all signs of surface rust looks to be gone.
So, I can finally officially begin my Raptor ownership journey. First step is to polish up the OEM side steps before I put them back on, they just left it off when they fixed the truck because they’re in pretty rough shape too. Then, fixing some small stuff, like maybe checking why the sunroof doesn’t work, fixing the windshield washer nozzles, replacing the broken switch panel on the side of the driver’s seat, and fixing the incessant “parking brake” error (at least I figured that out already - the switch is toast). After that, I’ll toss on some Raptor Gen 1 OEM phone dials that I found online for the truck, the bed support I got from a forum member here in advance, and then I plan to just take it out a few times as-is, and slowly build it up as my needs increase.
Anyways, hopefully it counts this time, truck on fellow truckers.
