So here’s my question to you, and I‘m not arguing with you or challenging you. But I notice you bought wheels for your Raptor. It’s in your avatar. So tell us, if you will, how much in aftermarket items did you put in your base Raptor?

I find that most people who buy base to “save” money, or because, they say, it’s exactly what they want and nothing more, wind up spending another ten grand or so on add-ons.

Oh, and what’s wrong with adaptive cruise? Ever look down at the radio for a brief moment and have traffic stop in front of you? Adaptive cruise is both a safety feature and a feature that allows a bit of relaxation on long highway drives.

yes, I have added a lot of aftermarket parts, its a beast of a truck. Turbo adapters, intake, JDM tune, intercooler, BOV, fox factory 3.0's, deavers, etc.

Do people really use cruise control? Man, I may have used it once in my raptor in 11 years, never used it in my Jeep ever. And I do a lot of highway travelling, for me it’s wanting to be in control of my vehicle. Maybe it’s all the mountains I travel around, cruise sucks for momentum driving.
Adaptive cruise is one of the best modern auto tech advancements IMHO. Regular cruise sucks

Soooo, does it let you freewheel when going down hills, so it doesnt
downshift your transmission to slow you down? Does it allow you to gradually speed up before a steep hill so it doesn't shift down 3 gears just to maintain speed up a hill? All this cruise shit ****** me off, please tell me it's intelligent to fix this stuff and then you've convinced me, otherwise I'm still out. :rotflmao:

I like and use all the tech on my Gen2 802a during normal DD. Adaptive cruise. Collision detection (with appropriate sensitivity so it doesn't go nuts). 360 cameras. Proximity sensors (wish it had them on the front as well). Cross-traffic alert. Lane keep assist. 4A whenever it's slippery (I prefer this to slippery mode because 4A persists after turning off the truck, and I don't need any throttle dampening beyond "normal" mode). I think it all enhances safety and adds some convenience. Now everyone likes to retort "Well I bought my Raptor because I actually want to drive it!" Yeah, sometimes I turn off all the nannies and drive it like I stole it. But 99% of the time I'm driving my kid to school or driving to/from work, and the tech is a big bonus for me.
Exactly. I wouldn't buy a daily driver without these features where I am currently. When I lived out in the country there was no traffic and most of this stuff was unnecessary. In a busy area I'll take any safety advantage I can get - I've never caused an accident, hit anyone, etc and I want to keep it that way.

I do. That cruise control probably saves my ass from felony speeding charges. Speed limits here are designed for the mouth breathing retards we have to share the roads with so I always feel like I am going backwards.

The adaptive cruise is something I will never go without again. Always some yahoo that drives 1mph slower than you or some truck driver that can’t wait 5 seconds for you to pass and decides to cut in and then take 15 miles to pass the other truck.

The add-on's that people get are generally not the same stuff they would get if the got a higher trim level or package. Performance mods are the obvious example, but it's not like you can get a package of different bumpers, wheels, tires, aux lights (until now). Besides, people want their vehicle to feel unique and you can't do that with a package. And of course, there is fun in the journey of slowing modding your truck rather than just getting something straight from the factoring and leaving it alone.

If you know your going to change out everything, not a lot of paying more for stuff you're going to pull out. And Ford knows this of course, which is why they often put features you can't get in aftermarket on higher trim levels.

Adaptive cruise control isn't a safety feature. You can use it safely, sure, but it's not there to automatically brake or warn you when you're not paying attention. That's what the collision sensor is for, which is always on.

I do like adaptive cruise control, but see it more as the next step in the evolution towards automated self-driving more than as a finished product. Yes, the braking does make cruise more useful, but as Corona pointed out, it's not as predictive as a human would be...knowing when take foot off the gas, brake early, accelerate early, change lanes, etc. I'm going to use it on long drives in low traffic. Every other time, I'd rather just drive myself.

I don't use cruise control either.

Looks like you and I are in the minority. I have zero interest in cruise control.
My wife’s car has it along with steering assist (BMW) and I couldn’t even tell you how to turn it on.

I like to drive cars, even if there’s traffic I want complete control at all times.
