large deposit - sound wrong

I would definitely put a deposit down (and have a contract that spells out all the terms) because in many states money has to change hands for a contract to be enforceable. That protects you in case the dealer tried to change the deal or sell the truck out from under you. But $10k is way too much.

I had placed a deposit on an custom order from a dealer out here in Bakersfield CA and they only wanted $1K which was fully refundable if I backed out.

Well I did back out because I found one available pre built at MSRP in San Diego, CA. The dealer I had put the deposit with refunded me my $1K immediately no issues at all.

I think 10K and non refundable is a joke IMO.
