Has anyone done the KHC top shock mount conversion to be able to take advantage of the Gen 2 travel. I really want to run the KING 3.0 IBP shock, but they only make it in Gen 2 length with no plans of offering it in the older Gen 1 configuration.

Cutting the top of the tower off allows the KHC mount to be bolted in. I think I will weld it in though.

If anyone has done this mod, please chime in.

Does the geometry of the rest of the suspension allow that travel to be put to use?

100%

Gen 1 and Gen 2 share all of the same pickup locations same uppers and lowers, different spindle but same mounting locations.
Everything is the same except the top hat. KHC did a good job keeping the same Ford geometry so the increased travel is applied to the G1

wow so is this the game changer we have all been waiting for ??

we just need these and can run the New GEN 2 2020 Fox fronts and get the 13" travel??

I'd love to see someone put a gen 2 shock up front with these without the spring and test actual travel, check for bind ETC.

I have not looked but what are the track width differences, if any, between gen 1’s and gen 2’s?

you may be able to gain some additional rotation at the LCA-frame pivot due to a longer travel shock but as @B E N pointed out there may be other limiting factors as well.

I assume the KHC coil bucket is higher than the factory gen 1? If so then you will likely gain some up travel but that may be limited by the pinch weld.

Anyone know the compressed length of the gen 2 shocks? I think the gen 1’s are 19.75”

Either way it is always cool to see people going after miss like this.

I know we are droop limited due to the CV shaft limitations, and as @Jakenbake pointed out there are compression restrictions as well. I could see it being a benefit if there was a longer LCA that moved the lower shock point out and a spring that would match this. Having a longer shock in there is no good if you just have to put in a longer bumpstop.

Would love to see stock height with more travel. Maybe this is attainable by moving the stock perch up, using stock control arms and using something like a boatec +2 front fender.

Would also like to see damping comparison between the two shocks, since the gen2 trucks are considerably lighter in the nose section.

All this said I would not pay $500 for a set of shock buckets. That is ludicrous.

I will answer some of these questions soon, as my truck will be going under the knife.

@Jakenbake The track width is the same G1 and G2.

@B E N I will take some measurements without a spring to check travel, bind etc. Talking with Dave at KHC, the whole reason Ford changed the shock tower on the G2 was to take advantage of the available upstroke, and the new 3.0 shock design. I believe the Gen 2 provides better clearance in the fenderwell and firewall though, so we will see what happens on this truck. I dont plan to run a tire bigger than a 37, so should not have any more issues than I did on my G1
I dont think $450 (raw steel) is too much to pay for someone to design in CAD and fab up a new bucket... Saves me guessing at it..lol
