K&N failed test

Wonder if the race teams run these hipo air filters because they routinely break the engines down and rebuild them. If I only had a staff of mechanics on retainer ...

K&N filters are junk. I learned how bad when researching for my diesel truck in 2008. The Donaldson filters used by Volant for their intake kits and the OEM filters on GM and Ford diesels are the best and still have plenty of flow.

I disagree, 6 layer cotton filament or more oiled based filters are the norm for extreme conditions.
K&N has an new XD line which I believe wasn't available back in 2008
I watched a couple of these guys on YouTube in the past that have opinions, they make me laugh.
I can see most of them don't even know how to clean them properly and over oil the crap out of them.

*SIGH* K&N oiled gauze air filters are practically the worst you could possibly use for a street vehicle other than no filter at all for long engine life. That's a fact. Opinions are like ********, they all stink. Facts remain true, even when bashed by people who don't have the experience to know the truth.

I finally stopped using K&N about 3 decades ago... Their marketing is top notch, just like Fram filters is/was, even though the filters (K&N and Fram) were practically junk.

If your "build" is so stressed that some size of paper or synthetic element filter (no oil) will hurt the peak power, then you're driving a race vehicle on the street. I've done it myself and don't condemn it, just know wtf you're doing.

Note that K&N bought out AEM filters and still sell the much better synthetic element filters. I think they're called "Dry Flow" or something similar.

Bench tests are not real world conditions, if you can't digest that, I'm sorry.
I'll take my over 40 years of 4x4 and hotrod experience over your opinion anytime.

I have nothing to add, other than I also quit using K&N filters a few decades ago.

Ok, I let you guys do you and I'll do me.

I'll stick with the millions and the professionals that use an oiled base air filter without any issues.
And use common sense using oil base air filters, either maintain properly and or add extra filter mediums when necessary.
And you can listen to the few that didn't properly maintain the filter and try to blame someone else.
It seams to be the norm now a days.

EVERY real racer who runs (obviously sponsored by) K&N ALSO runs an outer filter made of closed-cell foam to catch the actual dirt. The K&N underneath is simply to provide the support for a real filter.
