I think most people get there is potential with the whipple.. but without custom tuning and not a lot of feedback I can see why they're questioning if it's worth it

Whipple is in bed with Ford. So I'm missing the "lack of tuning" part. Of course there is an included "tuned" map for the larger blower unless I'm misunderstanding something.

IMO The doubters are clueless about the 100% uniqueness of a postive displacemnt supercharged (P/D S/Ced) engine.

The HP from a positive displacement blower is solely dependant on the blower displacement/internal pressure ratio and the pulley ratio.

You can make less power with a larger blower by simply pulleying it down to move less air than the smaller blower.

You can make the same power as a smaller blower by running a pulley ratio that moves the same amount of air.

You can also up the boost and make hundreds of HP more than the smaller blower could ever possibly hope to make.
Forget about headers, exhaust, all of the normal stuff you think of to make power on non-PD S/C engines. The P/D S/C alone determines how much HP is made by how much air it moves. Everything else is secondary or tertiary at best.

The only 2 things that truly matter for performance on a P/D S/C engine is 1) pulley ratio and 2) do not starve the intake side of the blower. Get big intakes, air filters and T/Bs to maximize power. Exhaust side improvements are nearly meaningless compared to just upping the blower speed a bit more.

The larger blowers allow you to move more air with less input power and less ouput heat (ie more efficiently)- so if you want to turn it up, the larger blower is always better.
So you have one on your R then? Can you provide draggy or time slips to show the performance increase? I do not care about dyno numbers….. what I find odd is that it’s nearly impossible to find documented acceleration times and a trap speed to show the benefit….

For those too lazy to actually watch the video, at about 10 mins ish they add Whipple tune. First cold pull after install 756 whp vs. 557whp stock on the same dyno, cooler day IIRC. He says 250 whp because of the temp difference of the two dyno pulls. I think he may being a bit over optimistic, but still got another 200 whp minimum either way.

I don't know, but would expect around 27% more power to show up in any time elapsed comparisons <sarcasm>. But then again, I do not have an R with a Whipple so I probably can't do any rough mathematical estimations.

WTF is the NOVA guy's obsession with this?
Draggy times are the new 1/4 times for those that don’t have access to a track, can do it anywhere and is very accurate and accepted in the car/truck world. You must be living under a different I k if you didn’t know that.

Eric, like many, probably doesn’t give two ***** about 1/4 mile, zero 60, (“bitcoin”) etc. Trucks not going to be faster than a car because mass is real. However, measurable improvements are a goal of most. A 200plus whp improvement on the same dyno IS a very measurable improvement even if it’s not on the latest fad. Old non-binary FvCK5 like us are not interested in anything associated with “draggy”, LBG-whatever or other “modern nonsense”. :p
