It's worth noting that the OP may have a prior or current relationship with JDM, beyond just being an enthusiastic customer. @NJStangersJonathan, you've been very vocal over the last several days here on FRF and Facebook pushing a campaign to bring JDM to the forum as a vendor. Then reading this review just seems a little biased and exaggerated. Something doesn't smell right. Shill?

14.079 (like from factory) for ethanol and 14.639 for 100% pure gas.

That is true. There is a different conversion for E10 fuel, but that was not the point we are trying to make here. The computer calculates in terms of lambda so it depends on what value is set for 1.00 lambda. Most gauges and some measured AFR calculations on SCT software still use 14.64 as stoich. I use 14.7 to keep the example simple.

Andy,

Jonathan's relationship with us is just as a customer. He did not want to run our tune at first because he was so happy with his current 5* tune that he didn't think it could be improved. It actually took several months of convincing him when he would stop by to let us tune it. He finally let us tune the truck a few weeks ago and waited to write a nice, well written review with the distinct differences he noticed. He has been pushing us to become a supporting member here because he too is an enthusiast and wants to see us contribute here. He pleaded with us to start posting here more because Raptor owners should know there are more than 2 companys who offer tunes for these trucks. His "campaigning" helped open up the door, we are here and we are ready to stay! We don't want to upset anyone who supports another tuning shop. We just want to make our customers happy, Jonathan is happy! Something didn't smell right when you told me there was enough room for us to join the forum, but I kindly accepted your response and sat tight while Jonathan and several other members requested you let us join.

Julie is still waiting for you to send the form for Payment of our official Supporting Vendor position.

We look forward to a long prosperous relationship with FRF and letting the community know what we can and have to offer!

Thanks,

JimIII

Sorry for the late response to all this...driving all over north jersey this morning.

My apologizes if my review came off as harsh or biased but that was not the case. The 5 Star tune is definitely an "all-out-there" fun to drive tune and that's why I didn't want to switch from it but when I did, I was surprisingly impressed with the new tune.

I'm sure I could compare the 93 DS tune from 5 Star to JDMs 93 Perf but that wouldn't be the same as having JDM make me a specific 93 DS tune.

In terms of MPG, I've learned that the Raptors "cruising" speed for max efficiently, at least for me, is between 70-80mph. But even with my constant left lane passes and mashing the gas pedal I manage to average no less than 14mpg lately and that's good enough for me.

Sorry if I missed anyone else's questions but I'll chime in again later tonight or tomorrow.

Maybe it's the skeptic in me, but I don't believe for a minute that Jonathan wasn't put up to this. If someone wants to do a comparison between products, I am all for it. However, when the contents of the comparison are so glaringly biased and overly enthusiastic, it becomes obvious there's something more going on. I do not run a tune in my truck, so my feelings aren't hurt.

5* SVC and JDM should all send you tunes to compare so you can do your own review. I've seen many reviews comparing the other 2 companies tunes with different insights. Jonathan just happens to really like our tune! So I don't blame him for being overly excited!

As I had said, from what you described about the JDM tune it is comparable to the 5* daily street tune so no need to have them make a street tune because they claim it already is a good street tune. See my Thread "our new 5* tunes". I did a very complete evaluation on two trucks, not just 1! Since the 5* 93 Performance Tune is not a good comparison to the JDM (because as I had said it is more of a all-out race tune) have them build you one with much more aggressive shifting (that is within Fords safe limits as with the 5*) that would be comparible and report back.

I can say I've ran the standard and street versions of 5* tunes along with SVC, I still have to do a write up, but, as a preference I have stuck to SVC. 5*s just didn't impress me as much as SVCs. And from a customer service perspective, SVC knocked it out of the park. 5* dropped the ball when I needed issues addressed. They came out of the woodwork when I did my initial comparison of the tunes against SVCs and mentioned their lack of communication and / or support - they basically told me "it's your truck, not our tune" until my review was posted. This is just my specific experience and in no way should reflect anyone else's opinions bc I have heard guys sing 5*s praises on multiple occasions, just not me...

Good job Slim! Remember what I had said before in a quote to one of your posts. All that matters in the end is if your satisfied how your vehicle runs with the tune you prefer! We all drive different, so what works for one may not be right for the other.

Sure, and I can guarantee the words "neck snapping shifts" nor "16mpg" will appear in that write up.
