For what it's worth, when the diaphragm on my passenger IWE was going out it would only give trouble when the suspension would articulate oddly enough.

Drove two days through Moab then an additional 2k home with it like that. When I finally replaced it the thing came out in three pieces!

Thanks for letting me know that too.
I am picturing stuff getting pushed and pulled around when suspension travels and wheels turn.
Trying to keep a close eye on it.
Hoping I don't have to trial and error my way through, replace stuff that isn't needed, and have a better system than just process of elimination.
Appreciating sharing of all the experiences :)

clicking noise would be something diffrent. a vacuum leak will sound like a tin can rattle. hollow and higher pitch. check your sway bar and ball joints would be the next step i think
Explain the tin can rattle.....so when I'm at a drive through and here this tin can rattle sometimes....it's probably my iwe? It's not all the time..just sometimes

Mine was pretty quiet.
It sounded just like what I would imagine.
The two splined surface ends contacting each other but not engaging.
Tick,tick,tick.
Click,click,click.
It was faint enough that unless you listened you would not notice.
Any radio on or enough road noise and wouldn't catch it.
I would have thought it was something like brake hardware just clicking and ticking except, went away when I shifted 4WD.
Mine has been quiet for a week or two now.
Ever since I messed with the connections behind the brake booster.
I keep jacking the front end off the driveway and making sure it is doing what it is supposed to.
I did fix the bad stuff by the driver's shock mount (THANKS again for the SUPER helpful tip).
I am keeping an ear open now.
Not too sure there isn't more of an issue, but it has not been making noise anymore and seems OK.
Good luck in your fix !

The IWE on mine presented as a grinding / growling sound. The easiest way to diagnose it, swap it out. I think it was under $20 at the ford dealer. Very simple like replacing a fuel filter on a lawn mower. It is right under the hood. If you even suspect it, just swap it out. That will tell you if the IWE is really the problem. The tinking sounds I found were other things like the turbo waste gate actuator.

drive by somewhere where there is a wall or k barrier, or something solid thats close to the street you are on. get on and off the throttle. i heard mine rattle only when i was off the throttle (probably engine noise masking the rattle) then drive by the same place in 4wd and see if the noise is gone.

So if it's gone in 4wd then it's the iwe? Is the delete a good idea or not ?
