Isn’t relocating intercooler in front of radiator an issue?

If you’re in hot temps all the time then get a tune that takes it into account and runs a little less boost or add a better radiator too.

Otherwise the intercooler isn’t always running a lot of heat so isn’t causing any issues. Nobody’s on full boost all the time in a ton of heat unless you’re towing too much weight up a mountain in Arizona and in that case you probably picked the wrong truck.

I do like to take my truck into the dunes where I’m at high load for extended periods in high temperatures.

The other part is just personal preference. I’ve had vehicles where I’ve had to limit where I drive them due to lack of sufficient cooling (on a DSM with stacked intercooler/PS cooler/AC/radiator) and it’s a pet peeve. I want my Raptor to be good for any time, anywhere and not have to check the local forecast first.

the FMIC is much less detrimental to radiator cooling than you think. I have a 170 thermostat in my truck, even in the dead of summer I don't see over 200 degrees, ever. Usually hovers around 185ish.

I have the FullRace IC, a 170 t-stat and the colder SP-542 spark plugs, along with an MPT 93 PRX tune. I live in SouthEast Texas where temps have been above 100 every day for more than a month at a time. My truck rarely sees 200 and typically runs at 180-190 all summer long, so I agree moving the IC in front of the radiator has not been an issue for me.

I do not tow a lot, but the few times I have in the summer, my truck has run perfectly. I also have driven for long stretches at 90+ mph in West Texas where the speed limit is 85 without issue.

An important bit of info no one has brought up in here yet..
With the stock intercooler your Manifold temp goes up under boost. With an aftermarket FMIC (I’m running a Cobb) your Manifold temps go down under boost.
Why?
Because the factory intercooler is small and inefficient whereas most any aftermarket front mounted intercooler is much more efficient.

I have seen no difference in coolant or trans temps since adding the Cobb FMIC. I have seen a huge drop in manifold temps and the truck does not heat soak as quickly or as badly anymore.

Finna.y got it hot last week. 112 temp ambient temp, I ran it all day in the desert and on the way home climbing up the grade at white water with my foot in it at about 90. 3/4 of the way up the hill the numbers appeared above the heat gage and got up to 238. I powered through to get to the down hill and she cooled off but if I had to keep on it she would have over heater in another few miles. So time to cooling upgrades. What is the best secret sauce? New full race rad and tranny cooler? 180 tstat and more tuning? I am definitely concerned about towing in the heat now.

The FullRace Radiator is the way to go. If you buy their radiator, they give you 50% off on their tranny cooler—just go to their website and select the radiator (you will see what I am talking about).

Did you have a payload and/or were towing when going up the hill? I have bumpers and a Cobb Accessport waiting to be installed, I am just unsure what IC I want to go with because of the potential of overheating. I really like SVC's FMIC because the BOV is moved up and tucked away from water, mud, etc.

How much off-roading have you done with the FMIC?

Thanks that’s what I was thinking, just ordered both.

No load, I was down in the desert all day and just let it run even when I was in the store to torture test it so it was as heat soaked as I could get. Then I hammered on it because that’s how I drive haha. I saw 238 and then got a little concerned but was past the hardest part; there was at good 40-50 mph head wind also. I think I would be scared to tow a boat to the river after my little test.
I’ve beat it pretty good so far, I have the Krazyhouse customs heavy duty FMIC bracket ready to install when I get my bumper from them.

I don't tow so no. Normal conditions so far - it does get rather hot here in the summers though.

Sorry my bad... and no, I'm not arguing that sandwiching is better than not, all things equal. What I am arguing is a big FMIC in front of the rad and transcooler is FAR more beneficial than having a smaller IC in the OEM location and that the FMIC is much less detrimental to radiator cooling than you think. Prior to this setup when i used to run everything OEM, i used to have overheating while off-roading.
Now I am trying a new inter cooler setup instead of having one big inter-cooler,Ill split the Ic to have a 30x30 cm gap in the middle allowing for more air flow to the radiator.

When you say overheating, what exactly was overheating? If coolant temps, I would thing a larger radiator would be more beneficial than a larger IC?

Lol what is this like your fourth IC now!?!? How big will the FMIC be? 30cm by 30cm is pretty big: that's nearly 12" by 12". I can't wait to see pics :)

Yes sir its coolant temps,and I do run a Full Race radiator.

My other guess would be a head gasket and I already did contact Ryan at Rm motorsports for a head gasket.
