Waiting for my build date and ordered the spray-in liner. See line-x touted all over this forum. Should I have have not ordered the factory spray-in?

I only haul weekend warrior stuff from Home Cheapo and landscape-type places. Most of the time I'm hauling bicycles, camping gear, boating gear, or my dog in his tuff kennel.

I suppose I could theoretically change my order since I don't have a build date, yet. Thoughts?

Unless you plan on using our Raptor as a dump truck and having excavators scrape out your bed of the dirt or whatever, then don't worry about it. I have it and it's just as good as the line-x stuff. You won't regret it.

its ok but you are guaranteed good results with the Line-X

When we cut holes in my bed last week, the Line-X was literally thicker than the bed metal itself

I also have a truck on order. Line x seems to be the best option and that what I am going to get.

You should be able to remove that option from your order if you wanted to.

i have it, it works great. your dealer will just take it to a local shop around the area that does bed liners and they will put it in. at least thats what happened with my last two trucks

Thanks, guys. Based on your feedback I'm going to bug my dealer today. If he thinks the order can be changed without adding additional delay to its processing I'll have it changed. There's a Line-X shop in the next town over from where I live. Sounds like if they advise against changing it, though, it won't be any big deal for my intended use.

The factory bedliner which is applied by Ground Effects, Ltd. ("GFX") for GM, Ford, and Dodge is not bad, but:

1. It's about half as thick as most aftermarket bedliners (65 mils vs. 125 mils).
2. Factory bedliner has a 3 yr/36 mile warranty. Most aftermarket bedliners have a lifetime warranty.
3. If you have a problem, the dealer can't fix it and it's going to an aftermarket bedliner dealer for the repair.
4. If you need a repair, you won't get the original product.
5. The factory bedliner is aromatic, so it will lose its gloss and fade. The rate depends on how much it's exposed to the sun. Unfortunately, you cannot order an aliphatic bedliner (won't fade) from the factory. You can buy an aftermarket non-fading bedliner (LINE-X Premium).

Well, I went to the dealer planning to have them change my order, but they talked me out of it. I was swayed by:

  1. Overspray is a risk. Granted it should never happen, but it sometimes does.
  2. Spraying on so much that the tailgate doesn't close right. Again, very edge case and small risk, but nonetheless...
  3. I won't be using a $55K truck to haul boulders that are going to be scooped out by a back hoe. I willl haul groceries and furniture. The smoother, gentler factory finish is more conducive to the latter.
  4. I will have a tonneau cover and am not really concerned about the color fading.
  5. Here's the REAL reason I decided to say screw it, though: My order is unscheduled, clean, and priority 12. That's about as good a status as one could hope for when in the queue for a build date. I didn't want to risk losing my spot in line over bedliner.

Hindsight is 20/20 and if I could do it over I would opt to skip the factory liner in favor of Line-X. That said, it seems all the experts agree that the factpry liner is more than good enough for my needs.

Hope this thread helps the next guy out... thanks for all the replies!
