I've used ProClip mounts for the last five years or so, covering five vehicles and five or six phones. Their system is a vehicle specific mount with a device specific holder, and it works amazingly well. I won't use anything else.

In the Raptor they have a couple of options, but the one I use and really like mounts the phone just above the air vent you mentioned so it is close to the radio, easy to plug in for carplay, perfect line of sight so you can see the phone without taking your eyes off the road and doesn't block the vent. It does get some cool air from the vent though, which makes it a great spot to keep the phone from overheating. Super easy to install as well.

I have had ProClips in my past 3 vehicles, but I hate the center mount for the F150 with that long span over the dash...wtf? I can't believe they couldn't find a less obtrusive mounting location in the truck. For that reason, I'm looking at alternatives this time around.

I agree with this. I've probably had 8-10 of their mounts... I bought their current one and I can't bring myself to mount it in the truck. It's terrible looking. They have always been low profile and sleek, missed the boat on this one.

I thought it was weird as well when I saw it on their website, but I installed it and it looks fine. It mounts nice and high as well. I have their mount on my Tesla Model S and it mounts onto the a/c vent. That makes it lower on the dash and also blocks a lot of the air coming from the vent. The solution on the Raptor is better as it doesn't block the air flow from the vent and mounts higher.

Yeah, I live in SC with a black raptor, so I'm not about to block an AC vent. I do like the new cradles from ProClip with the integrated cords. I'm leaning toward the Scoshe Magic Mount this time, like Jackk here on Page 2:

Just got the ProClip mount. Didn't notice from the pics above until now, but why do they design it so that the back of the phone doesn't sit flush with the back of the mount? With all that extra space behind the phone, I could potentially see the snapping off the lightning connection by grabbing the phone or inadvertently pushing it backward. I assume no one has had an issue with this?

I've never had a problem. It mounts in there pretty sturdily.

I have started using their top adjustable holders though (see link). I just like them better for some reason, but have used both in the past and never had any problems with either.

I combined the ProClip holder with the BuiltRight Industries Dash Mount and some RAM Mount arms and AMPS baseplates.

Decided to use the adjustable ProClip holder with USB cable so it connects to CarPlay or Waze when docked (routed the cable behind the dash and into the USB plug).

Love the flexibility of the setup and can't say enough good things about the BuiltRight dash mount and ProClip holder.

BTW...

Yesterday I ordered your exact setup. Great post, great pictures and links.
Thanks.
