Intercooler?

How did you run a winch with the factory bumper? I already have the intercooler coming. I want a winch but dont want to spend a ton of money on aftermarket bumpers

Neither the Full Race nor the stock intercooler have a drain valve for this supposed condensation.

There is a bunch of info in intercoolers here. Turbos = heat. IMO, if you're mostly stock then the stock IC is plenty sufficient. It'll depend on how hard you drive the truck but with your mods, an upgraded IC will help. It can help reduce heatsoak. I also did the IC relocate so I could put a winch in the factory bumper. Also, I think you need to relocate the IC if you put on an ADD bumper anyways.

I havent bought it yet. Nick@apollooptics sets up the kits. I don't want another bumper either. I think you need a winch mounting bracket and to trim a slight bit after moving the IC.

So what do you guys think about intercoolers. I am considering getting one for the stock location. Which one is best? Whipple vs Wagner vs Afe. Or is full race the way to go?

I have whipple and it’s outstanding.

For Wagner.... you have to really fiddle with it to get all the tubing to fit.

For AFE.... it’s a good product but the fit and tubing again is a pain.

Full race requires you to remove the shutters and basically tear out everything in front of the intercooler.

The whipple cooler is an exact factory replacement. The thing weighs at least 3X more than factory and is twice as thick. The only thing you have to modify is the factory plastic air dam in front of the intercooler. You just have to unclip it from the shutter housing to make extra room for the bigger intercooler.

I’m a fan of the direct factory replacement nature of it. At great quality.

If you’re going to do it though.... make sure you have a good quality jack stand(s) or extra lift jack.... because holding it up under there to reconnect all the tubing is a pain in the neck. Using a jack to hold up the IC made it ALOT easier.

will you ever want a different bumper or a winch?

If yes, you have limited options.

If no, well, it appears that whipple is the way to go. If not that, livernois has one out iirc.

I ordered the full race intercooler. They are built to order, so I'm still waiting. It should show up sometime in January.

I love my Full Race IC. WOT runs it lowers IAT temps 20-30 degrees. I don't like the stock location because of dirt/mud and I plan on putting a winch in the stock bumper. I havent noticed higher engine coolant temps either.

Full race will have the best performance... stock location is pretty small and most people cover it up with their license plate.
