SCREWs with 5.5' beds have always looked funny to me because the cab looks longer than the bed. On most trucks back in the day the bed was longer than the cab so that's what looks more proportioned to my old ass.

If they made a Reg Cab Raptor, I would own it, but I am sure glad I was forced to buy a SCAB.

Yeah, I grew up in farm country. Standard cab 8' bed was what everyone drove. To the point where even shortbeds looked off somehow.

Yes they are. They are also so short that they look funny to me. They're like the short fat kid of the pickup world. LOL This says more about me than about them. I've been driving full-size pickups for almost 50 years, and I have this idea in my head about "normal" proportions. Even my SCREW looks oddly short, tall, and wide to me.
I test drove 3 SCREWs before getting.my SCAB. They were way too long for daily driving let alone fitting in a normal.garage. if you're in Texas or the Midwest and have kids I could see a use for it. The Gen2s look better than Gen1 Screws. SCABS fit better on tighter trails and just looks better. But to each their own.

The Gen2s look better than Gen1 Screws. SCABS fit better on tighter trails and just looks better. But to each their own.

I always liked the look of the SCAB, but the diminished fuel and towing/hauling capacity were deal breakers to me.

Hard to beat the 36g tank of the SCREW for range. Ford even years ago had dual tanks in many F-150’s.

Just some good forward thinking even back then.

I can’t tell you how much I love that 36 gallon tank. I don’t know why the hell it took them so long to figure out that trucks need big tanks. My 02 SD V10 has a 28 gal tank. It gets effing painful considering the truck gets 10 MPG or less when towing. Now if they could just put a 19 gallon in the S550s.

And yes, it was forward thinking...except they always broke in my experience.

28g in a V10 that offered horrible mileage LOL. While it could tow, filling it often surely had to get old.

This truck does damn good on mileage/range. Just the fact of not having to hit the pump as often is nice.

My Dad had a '74 Chevy that had two tanks and it came that way from the factory. My '62 Chevy had an aftermarket tank that someone added in their garage using plumbing pipe and fixtures. My '03 Dodge had a 35 gallon tank. I bought a SCREW instead of a SCAB because of the gas tank. Range has been a thing as long as there have been pickup trucks.

My ‘03 Hemi quad cab Thunderroad had only the 26 gallon tank. While an average size for a 1500, that first year 5.7 Hemi drank like nobody’s business. Averaged 11-12mpg combined. Straight highway pulling my drag car/trailer @5500lbs it did average up to 16mpg. Just average stop and go killed range. Always at the pump with that truck.
