Test fit to make sure all the mods to the trailer are going to work out. Had to build some ramps to keep from crushing the fender wells. We also added a 50 gallon fuel tank to the tongue so we don't have to carry a bunch of gas cans or make trips to the gas station.

I have a fuel tank just like that it's an easy an cheep install to put a filter on I recommend doing it.

Has anyone had experience using an IPAD for GPS in an event like TRR? I have a GPS app called MotionX that can use the .GPX files for trails and waypoints. I just hate to buy another GPS if my Verizon enabled IPAD 3 GPS Equipped will do the job just as good.

I used this last year, and had the track loaded onto the iPad which we secured to the dash with Velcro. It turned out that it really wasn't necessary. You can't really get lost out there, and the course was marked well enough there wasn't much need to try to mark our own hazards as we made the first lap. A good co-driver keeping his eyes down the track, watching mirrors and spotting hazard markers is all you need.

A number of guys used ipads and the Motion X app with good results at the Snoball 500 and I also plan on giving it a try at TRR13.

Thanks for that info, very good to know! BTW, where did you get the file for the track route?? I figure I have the Motion X and ipad anyway, so no harm in using it.

I will have the GPS file available for download ahead of time. I have last years file, but there is a good chance I am going to eliminate a few of the rockier sections (crybabies!). So I'll have a new file. I'm going to try to mark more of the hazards on the file as well.

I agree with Panda about the course being marked. I was able to navigate the course and hazards pretty easily last year by only the markers. And as far as co-driver goes I had my dad with me who knew nothing about desert driving or navigating for that matter lol. By about the third or fourth lap of the weekend he was starting to get the hang of it and it really was useful. Be sure to talk a bit of strategy with your co-driver (if you have one) before and on the first lap. It will make the rest of the time on the track much easier and more fun and enjoyable.
