This thread recommends loosening/removing everything before raising the truck, most of the instructions from @RPG and @svc recommend raising first, then removing shocks, leafs, etc... Granted, those are instructions for bump stop kit and leaf springs swaps.

Anybody have a recommendation in regards to which method is easier?

Anyone have the new bolts by the gas tank within a paper width of touching the tank? If so did you cut it down or left it alone?

Just did mine today. The replacement bolt that came with my Deavers was probably 1/4" away from the tank. I ground the extra nub off the end so that there was plenty of room to slide the nut on.

By the way, the bushing with the flat side does NOT go on the front. Maybe there has been a bushing change, but trying to put the flat sided bushing in the front side caused me a good bit of delay and embarrassment. Jeff from SVC was encouraging as always...

I did not remove my shocks for Deaver install... did not see any advantage from removing them other than more work.

please excuse my ignorance but is it such a pain in the ass to drop the gas tank that the bolt should be cut instead?
It's about speed and preference. People have done both. If you have dropped a tank in the past, it's might night be to difficult for you. How ever, sawzals are fun and quick!
