I would never know if I had this problem. I don’t think I’ve ever walked up to my tailgate without the fob on me. Have definitely been denied at the doors when I’ve forgot to grab my ‘key’

I was going to ask if there was --another-- key fob nearby.

Boom! Its the antenna, neighbor found that out, gotta get a new antenna tomorrow. Appreciate the help everyone.
How did you determine the antenna is at fault? The antenna reads the key and sends the data to the BCM...if it’s faulty it won’t see the key and the tailgate won’t unlock.

My neighbor is a pretty smart dude, since I already replaced the mechanism in the middle of the tailgate and it was the same symptoms we knew it wasn't that. Heck now I have my old one as a spare lol.

He unplugged the antenna and with it unplugged it wouldn't unlock once I hit the lock on the key fob and hit the button to open the tailgate. He then plugged it back in and same issue. So we knew it was the antenna sensor that was bad. Currently it's unplugged so it will/is locked.

Ordered a new one through my local dealership just now will get it tomorrow morning, cost was $52.xx including tax.

I'd probably just leave it unplugged if it wasn't for having my work tools constantly in the back (I have a tonneau cover) as walking up to the truck with the doors locked and the tailgate automatically sensing my key fob and unlocking when I hit the tailgate isn't a big deal to me.
