Chief Engineer, US Merchant Marine.
I'm working offshore oil in Guyana right now. 12 hours a day, seven days a week. Normal schedule is two months on, one off. I've been working on boats for 25 years, started out on fishing boats out of Dutch Harbor. The first day I worked on a boat I knew that that was what I was meant to do. I've missed many many things over the years due to being gone so much but I still love my job!
The life of a mariner - your family will have everything they want except you......
Hey I resemble that statement! I actually just bought a raptor and am picking it up tomorrow in Texas and driving it back to California with the girlfriend. So maybe I’m not technically an owner yet but my monies gone lol.
I’m just a lowly teacher in my ear 30s with no kids and no debt but, I had a Tacoma I purchased new and paid off within 2 years, then sold for 33k, basically paying for half of the raptor. Say what you will about Tacoma’s, but they hold their value as well. Couldn’t get past how sluggish and small it was though.
The payments on the raptor will be about the same as my Tacoma meaning I should be able to pay that off in about 2-3 years as well with a less than 2% interest rate. Probably not the wisest financial decision on my part but I was obsessing over the raptor enough to know if I didn’t get one I would just continue to obsess and ruin any relationship I had because it would be all I talked about.
I started my own business nearly 20 years ago. I worked my butt off for many of those years and was very frugal. It’s now become extremely successful and affording a Raptor is easy. I also own many other nice cars, such as McLarens, Porsche’s, etc.
What do you do if you don’t mind me asking?
