Tragic event. Thoughts go to those families who lost members and hope a speedy recovery to those who were injured.

The news report I read said the driver of the truck had to flee the scene as some in the crowd turned on him and others were throwing rocks at him.

They just showed video of the race on TV - it was taken very close to the crash scene after the "Rockpile" jump. It's hard to believe how close people are to the race route (hard to call it a "track") - people are lined up on both sides of the trail and after the truck goes by the dust cloud is like a fast-moving fog. I'm glad the truck after the one that crashed didn't hit anyone just because I don't know how they could see.

The truck was white with "4130 Clothing" and "Misery Motorsports" on it.

It's a tragic accident and it's hard to imagine going to an event such as this one and having something like this happen.

Amazing that the officials let people get so close and even more amazing that the people would want to stand that close...

Holly ****!!

WTF...why were these people jumping on the track every time a truck passed by and why wasn't there ropes with track officials? This is a tragic event that could have...should have been avoided.

I was just reading this

The course is 50 miles long in the middle of the desert...no one is going to rope off anything. You are at your own risk and everyone understands that. This was not a high speed section and it wasn't a jump...trucks don't get much more than a foot off the ground. I heard a tie-rod broke and if that's the case imagine if you were sitting with your family on the side of the freeway and some semi truck broke lost control and hit your car? Is it stupidity or an accident? Yes you take a risk of this happening but for the amount of off-road races that take place across the country you have a much higher risk of death driving down the freeway. So let's have a little respect for the deceased and their families and the hundreds of people that had to witness this event and not question their "intelligence level"

Sorry, my post is not an attack on the intelligence of these people...a tragic event happened and I'm looking to understand why and how to avoid it in the future. If you look in that video prior to the last truck, the people ran on to the track. Did the previous truck break or the next truck? As for roping off the track, no one is going to rope off a 50 mile track but why not rope off the spectator areas?
