An offroad vehicle ran into the crowd and, according to reports, at least 8 were killed - 12 others hurt (preliminary info).

This is tragic news and I hope everyone on our forum (Brian, AII Raciing and others) are OK.

Please tell us you're OK!

Here's the latest news I can find on the internet:

LUCERNE VALLEY -- At least six people are dead after an out-of-control pickup truck slammed into a crowd of spectators during an off-road race in Lucerne Valley.

The incident happened at 7:48 p.m. during the California 200 off-road race near Bessemer Mine Road at Soggy Dry Lake in the Lucerne Valley area, said dispatch supervisor Tim Franke of the San Bernardino County Fire Department.

Witnesses say the pickup truck hit people who were sitting on rocks. Two of the victims were said to be decapitated.

Eight people were taken to St. Mary's and Victor Valley Hospitals, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The annual race attracts people from all over California.

Just heard from Brian by text. He said:

"We showed up 30 minutes after our friends were 20 feet from the truck when it crashed. The aftermath is horrific. Glad I wasn't here to see it"

Insane. If I lived closer, I would have been there, no question about it. I'm truly grateful you're ok Brian. And I'm terribly sad for those who lost their lives, and the families they leave behind.

Just getting home...it was like a war zone. Literally dead bodies all around the truck and people just walking over them. There was helicopter after helicopter landing to take away the injured. I've never seen anything quite like it. Very sad and eye opening...everything we have, including our lives, can be taken at a moments notice.

My Prayers to the families of those lost, and for the full & fast recovery of the injuried. I hope everything turns for the better, not the other way.
