But relevant to thread I just realized the oil change I just did at 189,798 miles wasn't because I went the 7,500 miles it's set for, but rather a year; last time I did it was December of '20 and only around 5k miles ago. So FYI the onboard oil life thing (at least on a '13) tells you to change oil soon at either the mileage interval you set or a year later, whichever comes first...
I think my 2010 does the same thing, I got the oil life message showing 5% when I started driving it this winter, it's basically been rarely driven in the last year and a half, maybe 1000 miles tops. I changed the oil last year at some point and I'm pretty ritual about resetting the oil life thing. First thing I did was check my oil when I got the message, thinking maybe I didn't change it, sure enough it was still sparkling clean.

I always reset my Trip B when I change my oil and change it around the 0-10% zone. It’s never the same mileage, usually around the 5500 to 7500 miles, so I always thought that there must be some type of calendar or driving behavior algorithm applied to the oil change life.

Was it easy to stitch together? Did you leave the wheel on while you did it?
Oh yeah it was easy after I watched the video on how to do it like 10 times as I didn’t want to do it wrong. I did it with the wheel installed in like 5 minutes. Best $ spent. I will try and remember to post a picture of how it’s holding up later today once I dig it out that is, lol.

just hit 254k km's (158k mi) today and due for an oil change according to my sticker, but my oil life isnt quite there yet. Does anyone know if the sensor is purely mileage based or is it a qualitative sensor that actually can determine the state of the oil?

Other issues/repairs to note since my ownership (bought 7 months ago with 238k)

Standard maintenance items since July, 2021
- 240k major fluid service, all fluids except for brakes were changed
- new tires
- new battery cause the one it came with was 5 years old
- ball joint's were replaced at 240k due to some play
- fuse 27 installed
- block heater was replaced cause it was leaking

Unexpected items
- lead frame/valve body went bad presumably after the tranny flush, got it fixed and other than a couple hiccups with having to manually shift to 6th its been good with no CEL's

Electrical Stuff
- the shift indicator lights disappear every now and then so have to do a manual shift to make it come back. Is this normal?
- had 1 random Sync reboot while driving
- fan makes a terrible noise when its really cold out

Upcoming
- needs a brake job soon, rear is at 2mm
- i was told during the tranny service i have some play in my steering rack
- due for a suspension refresh all around
- i think its also due for new plugs and coils, looking into its history
- some sort of rust maintenance as it is not looking pretty

Not sure but interested to find out. I know mine will throw a reminder based on time (a year) or miles (mine's set to 5k). It may adjust for driving habits but I haven't noticed it.

As @BenBB said, it goes by mileage and some sort of time, when I didnt drive mine much for a year and a half, the oil life came on saying to change the oil only 5% left, I thought I had changed the oil a year previous before it sat, checked the oil and it was still clear and no dust on the filter, so I am pretty sure it gives a reminder after a year, on ours anyway.
