Hey everyone, been having an engine rattle...help

Been having a very intermittent metallic rattle/grinding. Occurring while accelerating in between shifts. Well, today it happened while lightly accelerating without shifting and finally was able to record it.

I’ve had cam work done already. Image attached.

Hi! Did you ever solve this issue? I'm having the exact same issue and stumbled upon your thread. I get an intermittent metallic grinding / rattle sound during acceleration. Generally happens in the lower to middle gears. Also tends to happen more when the truck is hot or has been driven multiple times during the day (like running errands, etc).

I have the exact same problem and have already had the cam phaser work done. I just got it back from the dealership which confirmed that I have an oil consumption issue and they have ordered replacement valve covers, but they said the rattling noises I am hearing are just "turbo noises" and all is well. I am not sure that I agree.

2019 that was built in early April of that year.

Sounds like it may be the IWEs partially engaging. Try driving it in 4A and see if the noise goes away.

Mine is a 2018; I took it yesterday and they "couldn't duplicate the problem." I even gave them the tech bulletin that MMAYO posted above (thanks by the way). I'm going over tomorrow for a ride along w/ the service manager. Fingers crossed it actually makes the noise; its very sporadic and random with mine. The only common trend is that it tends to be when the truck has been started and stopped a bunch that day; like if I was out running errands or whatever......

I will give that a shot and report back, but I am pretty sure the sounds are coming from the engine.
