I'm 34 and remember kids arriving to college with brand new 3/4 ton diesel pickups and $40k cars. That wasn't the case for me in my 19 year old Monte Carlo that I'd had to get the transmission replaced on before I could drive it, but I'd say probably 20% of the kids there had a car that cost what my dad made as a yearly salary. My youngest brother went to OU and graduated earlier this year. He took a picture of a girl driving a "1 of 43" special edition Ferrari. She can also be seen driving a Raptor and Mercedes G-Class from time to time. When I visited him, there were 4 Corvettes in the dorm parking lot. I think perhaps it's not as uncommon as you feel it to be 18 and have a kickass ride. (for the record, my brother was in a 15 year old Taurus)
Your probably right........
This is definitely a different world. To use our young 18 year old friends example.... I graduated high school with a 4.0 GPA becuase I knew that if I didnt, I wouldnt be able to afford to go to college without an academic scholarship, and I busted my butt on the farm all summer while driving a 1979 chevy 3/4 ton farm pickup. Then spent 8 years in college to obtain my doctorate and borrowed a massive amount of money to start a business which almost bankrupted me 3 times since 2008. And now Im finally able to order a 2013 Raptor with high monthly payments.
So I can tell you because of all that hard work, I still dont feel like I deserve a Raptor as reward.
Im sure he's a nice enough kid, and Im glad things work out for some people.
But I am most greatful for my dad giving me an education in the value of hardwork and not a vehicle that 90% of America cannot afford just for graduating highschool with B+ average.
