The VCT sensors go under the cam cover and behind the timing chain cover. The guys at for told me that the VCT sensors from a 2010 engine need to be put into the engine. Looks like I might be having to tear the front end of the engine apart. I guess we shall see. Jdowens1, thanks for all the info. If you come up with anything else please keep me posted

I guess I'm confused then. If your VCT isn't working properly the engine should be running rough in theory. Ill get back to u again in a minute

Alright the top picture shows the VCT solenoid/sensor. The bottom pictures are bad but I'm trying to show the location of cam sensor. I was wrong in an earlier post where I though camshaft sensor was in front. It is actually in the back of each cylinder head. On the driver side behind the last coil there is a connector with two wires going into a sensor. That is your camshaft sensor. I would make sure it is fully seated. I base this info off of the codes you gave me earlier. That would be first thing I did before I went any further.

Jdowens1, I swapped out the solenoids and checked the connections on the sensors in the back and still no dice man. I'm lost now

Are you still receiving the same codes

---------- Post added at 06:52 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:48 PM ----------

If you changed the solenoid did you inspect the camshaft where the camshaft sensor reads. Just to make sure the fingers are straight and not bent or damaged. If you are still receiving circuit codes with no driveability symptoms I would test the cam sensor while to the PCM to make sure one didn't get damaged when swapping out the engine. I wish I could help more but Internet diagnosis is a difficult thing without having the vehicle to actually look at. Let me know if you get the same codes still.

Still getting the same codes. Everything looked good under the cam covers but now the truck won't shift out of first. It makes a hissing noise under acceleration. I'm tempted to trade the damn thing in for a new one.

A hissing noise like a vacuum leak? I'm guessing it still idles fine. Depending on the scan tool and what PIDS your capable of viewing you could always see if the transmission is seeing all its inputs. It sounds like maybe a loose ground or a poor connection somewhere. Maybe a harness got pinched. You already had a dealer look at it right? I'm guessing what they claimed was wrong didn't fix it. I'm not sure how much more help I would be. If u were close to Montana I would go fix it for ya.

The hissing didn't start until it wouldn't change gears. Feels like its taking off in 3rd and staying there. I've already looked at all the harness and can't find anything. The programs in the PCM and TCM are current. It idles just fine. I noticed when going up hill it would start to stumble a little bit. I'm at a loss. I called the guy at my dealer and he told me he would scan it for free tomorrow. If I can't get the issue fixed soon I will probably trade it in for a brand new one. They have a black crew cab sitting on the dealer lot but a crew cab is too big for me. Gotta figure something out. Just curious Jdowens1, what do you do for a living that you know so much about these trucks? You've been a great help. Never mind. I just looked under your avatar and read what you do for a living. Brain fart

It could be a burnt out PCM driver but I would out rule anything until the camshaft wires get tested. Basically this was a new engine installed and it didn't work right since. Was there any welding done to the frame or body?
