Are you doing the 300 lbs AND the bike/gear on occasion for an additional 6-700 lbs? Or 700 lbs total once in a while.

I'm probably 200 all the time, 400 on most trips, 550 on long/remote trips.

I figure if I plan to split the difference I could support around 400 - 450 then if I tip over on some trip and have a little squat until I burn down water, fuel, and supplies, then I won't have a total pig for the 200 lb 'unloaded'.

I am at 300-350 all the time on the truck. Traveling without the bike several times a year with over 100 extra. Picking up things around town a lot. Then maybe once a year take the bike to the west coast. For an additional 600lbs. But the bike is still debatable. Only way I can make the bike work is to get rid of the rolling cover. If I get rid of the rolling cover I have to find another solution for hauling 2 road bikes around as I cycle 3-4 times a week.

+4 and eibachs is what I did. Very happy with it up to 400 or so pounds In the bed. I had +3 on my 2018 and wanted a little more In rear the truck would still drag it ass when loaded down on two tracks crossing washes.

Couple people asked. The +4 Deavers are the HD ones. You can’t go wrong with them, if you think they are to high you can add a shackle later as others mentioned.
Here is another shot of it loaded down on a hunting trip this fall. About 800 pounds of coolers and gear total Including the rack system. Basically gets it back to stock unloaded height more or less but loaded down.
