We purchased a travel trailer that weighs about 5300 lbs dry. Once I take into consideration the tongue weight and passenger/gear weight, I'm slightly over what is recommended by Ford for the Raptor. Not by much, but I'm over on the total payload for the truck and rear axle. I plan on using a weight distribution hitch with sway bars to help distribute some of the tongue weight onto the front axle, but I'd like to also reinforce the rear suspension by adding a bump stop kit.

The problem is which one do I use? I've read them all and have read great reviews about most of them. What works best with stock leaf springs?

Thanks!

I have the svc Gen 2 kit along with Deaver +3 and I don't think you can beat that combo it was like driving a different truck after installing them. Also the quality of the kit was great nice quality welds, heavy gauge steel, and good power coating.

I would not add a bump stop kit with stock rear Springs. I learned that lesson the hard way

What's the danger here?

Keep in mind that I'm not getting the bump stop kit to increase my travel for off-road use. I'm getting the bump stop kit to assist in towing and increase payload capacity during long trips while towing a trailer. When not towing, I would use the stock setting on the bump stops.

The stock leafs would not be compressed beyond their capabilities. On the contrary, with a kit like the RPG or SVC where I can adjust and lower the bump stop, it would actually release some pressure off the stock leafs on uneven pavement.

I bet +3 springs would be a better choice

Without a bump stop kit?

Yea, the leaf springs you will be always using and will make the ride much better, and will keep the rear end from squatting as much in coordination with the weight distributing hitch

Are the Deaver +3 springs stiffer than stock? Will I notice a difference in ride quality when not towing?

I added the rpg Bump kit and with stock leafs I was getting 2-3" of travel on road at times even with the short delrin pads.

@Taxman not sure if you are aware, but the SVC kit is the only kit available that is adjustable. The RPG kit requires the purchase of a additional set of bumps to be able to use for towing. This makes the SVC kit an exceptional value.

While you do not "need" to upgrade your leafs, it does make a good deal of a differance both loaded and un-loaded. In short, Deavers leafs are progressive rate (while OEM are linear rate) so they will ride slightly softer when empty but will progressively stiffen up as the weight increases (or as they cycle over bumps). You will notice a better overall ride quality.

Hit me up if you have any questions, we can also get you setup with the SVC kit and/or deaver combo.

I don't have $3k to drop on a new rear suspension upgrade. Therefore, if I only had $1500, would you upgrade to Deaver leafs or get the bump stop kit?

I assume +3 is the way to go here? Any reason to go +2 only?
