This is is only the partial list. Item no 10 would have to be replaced and in order to replace this part, a shop would have to remove and replace the outer rocker panel and B pillar outer panel which is not shown here. Further, this doesn't identify all of the special rivets and bonding adhesive that are required. In other words there are a lot more parts that need to be replaced but they all have to be replaced because of the tear in the aluminum metal which exists on part 10

Shouldn’t the brackets that hold the running board be designed to shear off before this type of damage takes place ? Or do you think he it something hard enough that he essential “hit” the rocker panel as well

I guess having an aluminum body means everything is riveted and glued together, making repairs a bit more complicated.

It would be nice if the brackets that hold the running board on would not cause so much damage to the inner rocker panel but they need to be pretty strong in order to support the weight that the running board is designed to support. The real challenge here is in the general car design itself. Car owners want performance and the government regulators want fuel efficiency and low emissions. In order to achieve performance and fuel efficiency, the car manufacturers have to make the cars lighter but still be safe. This requires a construction design where very thin metals are used and ,in the case of the Raptor, lighter metals. The unintended consequence of this is more challenging and costly repairs. Think if the strength of a modern day soda can. It has strength vertically but not horizontally. In other words, if you are careful, a soda can can support a lot of wight sitting on top of it but as soon as you put the slightest dent in the side, it won't hold up any wight and completely crushes. Car manufacturers are focused primarily on building fuel efficient cars, with good performance that can protect the occupants in the case of an accident. Making the repairs affordable is a secondary concern for them.
