Nah you can get it in store now, at least at the NAPA near me. They even stock Liqui Moly which was a surprise to meWell you can’t get amsoil off the shelf afaik it is still online only? I forgot to mention Motul, they make good oil too.
Whats with the avatar swap!?So as driveway mechanic and Mechanical Engineer for CAT/Cummins generators... This is my opinion on oils and additives.
There are very few actual TRUE/Full Synthetic oils. Amsoil being one of them. Most "full synthetic oils" are what is called a Base Group 3 synthetic. So... still using a conventional base oil to start. Most oils on the market aim to meet or beat API (American Petroleum Institute) standards along with all NOVAC testing. All additives are technically "solutions in search of problems" for newer engines but do/did play a roll in older engines 100%. Most are snake oil though ASIDE FROM LiquidMolly products... the ideas the have are very interesting with their Ceratech product line.
In my opinion the best Oils you can buy today off the shelf.....
Valvoline
Penzoil
Amsoil
Rotella
I watched Toy Story 4 with my son and laughed my ass off at Forkey. Change is good. MY avatar will change but my name never will.Whats with the avatar swap!?
Penz ultra Platinum
Amsoil
Royal Purple HPS
Red Line EPR
Im starting to think short OCI is the way to go tho. As long as youre 5k or under i think thats key.
I like the way Valvoline tastes so....Those of you showing what oils are good, what is it that make those oils good? Have any real testing data?
The marketing campaign is what makes one better than the other in most cases!
As someone stated, Most all the listed oils use the same base stock. The additive packages are in some cases just rebranded. No different than Uni royal made all of Big O tires or Napa filters are rebranded Wix filters.
A quick google says that it is not available at every NAPA... only ones with owners who are dealers or something.Nah you can get it in store now, at least at the NAPA near me. They even stock Liqui Moly which was a surprise to me
Which oil is best is the oldest argument (or discussion) on teh intarwebz. Project Farm on youtube did some very good testing of a bunch of synthetic oils, you should check it out if you haven't already. I would venture to say that every one of those oils would be fine to use with proper OCI - including amazon basics. The only one that I personally would NOT use is the royal purple. That said, in his testing Amsoil came in first with Penzoil Platinum in a close second. Those of you showing what oils are good, what is it that make those oils good? Have any real testing data?
