Saying statistics don’t lie is only meaningful if you infer that they also tell the truth. However, statistics do neither. Statistics are what they are, and exist in a world of infinite other statistics. Do me a favor—when you encounter a statistic in the wild, don’t use it to validate your emotionally entrenched beliefs. Just back away slowly and continue your day.

You’d be better served just speaking for yourself. Try “I don’t like guns” or “I choose not to own guns.” I suspect nobody will argue with you.
