I agree, the pull pal is bad-ass. It's also bulky and expensive. As for stakes, I used to use sharpened re-bar. It's cheap and easily replaceable. It is soft though so you have to tie back low and hook up low or it'll bend. For our USAR team we have these pickets that are shaped just like giant duplex nails and they are awesome but I don't know where they came from. I'm betting they are out of some rescue catalog and are probably stupid expensive.

Using the rod method:
Using rod/stakes at least three feet long work the best. The deeper you can drive the the stronger it will be..
I have always keep three rods to drive them in a straight line about 2-3 feet apart, angled away from vehicle. Tie the rope to all three rods.

Tuffy under Rear Seat Lock Box

What a GREAT product! This thing is built rock solid, nice fit and finish. Easy to install, well written instructions. Built in America. They make 3 models for both Screws and Scabs with and w/o Sub Woofers. There is an option to permanently mount to body, but I suspect most of us mount to the seat brackets where unit can be quickly removed from inside. You need a cutting torch to breach the inside of this box, very impressive design with inside mounted piano style hinge that runs the length, the lock mechanism is robust, and the seal will even keep dust out.

Why?
1. Store stuff – Stuff you want quick and easy access too. For me its tools, ropes, straps, recovery gear, rags
2. Security: If you have very valuable stuff, firearms and the like, this is a must have.
3. Protection in case of Roll Over. All of my tools could become deadly projectiles in the case of a high speed roll-over accident without being secured.

Installation:
Very fast, spent more time reading the instructions than installing. Figure about 10 minutes since I already had all necessary tools right there! 18mm to remove two seat bracket bolts, then slip brackets behind with the carriage bolt held in by compression between the bracket and the carpet. Position box, install washers and nuts, done!

The more time consuming part is modifying the Stock Rubber Floor Mat. Not sure how the mats work in the Scabs, but in the Screws, the mat goes quite a way under the seat.

These mats were designed to hold a lot of water, and that is a good thing with us bouncing around, accidents do happen. I go to the mountains and ski in the winter, so the ability to hold water is critical as snow from your boots will quickly melt inside.

Easy enough. A new blade in the razor knife cuts thru the mat like a hot knife thru butter. DSC02580.jpg
Very important to thoroughly clean the edge of the mat with alcohol prior to application of clear silicone. Place a couple thick beads of Silicone along the edge to mimic the stock edge.

I tested the result with 2 bottles of water, no leaks first time.
