DIY meaning I'm going to take some trusty tools and knock this project out in the garage.

That would be a yes as I have a big garage to work in. If not then I will document how I do the install.

The stock liners are like a high school ex girlfriend. They've served their purpose but I have no need for them now. I'm not particular about keeping them at all. I'd like to cover the wiring, engine bay as much as possible, air inlet, and as much of the finders as possible to prevent rocks from spider webbing the fiberglass.

Our fenders are extremely durable. We build a ton of bodies for short course and desert racing. The same process' & materials that go into making their bodies, are shared with in our "street" fenders. If you are throwing up small gravel, I would worry about spider webs or cracking. You need to get into the golf ball sized rocks before any of that happens! Truck bed liner is also a good option to add some additional strength.
