So, technically, if you do drop the tank, you could get away with not having to cut the bolt down, you could just install it the way Ford installed it, not worrying about length.

So it's either a) leave the tank and cut the old bolt off and trim the new bolt or b) drop the tank and just install the bolt the way Ford did without having to cut it.

I'm leaning towards a. but safety tells me to do b. One way or another though, it's getting done. Thanks guys.

Autozone has a "Duralast" 1 1/8" wrench that the over all length is a few inches longer then the craftsman, which is very helpful. I think it was only $18. Don't forget the scotch tape either.

goin ******* on ur ass
I mentioned this in another thread: cut down the pilot of that replacement bolt by about a ¼” prior to installation to have some safety clearance to the gas tank.
I’m 60 and I performed the install by myself so you should have no problems :)

YES VERY GOOD ADVICE

Don't need anything protruding out in case of a T bone hit

I guess I will just invest in the new wrench and use my grinder to cut off the bolt. I'll just be sure the tank is as close to empty as possible. I'm dreading dropping the tank for some reason. Famous last words, right?

I should be able to crank with all I got to get to 250 foot pounds. My only torque wrench goes to 150 only. I'm pretty handy and have put in suspension mods in every vehicle I've owned so I know I can do this just need a kick in the ass, and maybe a 12 pack.

Well it was nice reading your posts, God speed to ya.

Dude do you know what you just typed ? "USE MY GRINDER"
"BE SURE TANK IS AS CLOSE TO EMPTY AS POSSIBLE"

A little lesson in fire, combustables. Grinder makes "SPARKS".... gas "FUMES" burn not the actual liquid. You would be safer with a full tank. Safest is to RENT a SAWS ALL from Home Depot and buy two blades, less sparking. Sparky

OH yes you can do it, Really easy

Man up you big ***** ! Tee Hee

Do yourself the favor of cutting the bolt head and trimming the new bolt (assuming your kit has one. mine didn't but i think they ship with them now). I dropped the tank and it was a major PITA. Install took about 6 hrs with the tank drop so If I didn't have to do that it prolly could have been done in 4ish I would assume. Had another set of hands helping me too tho.

Well, got my set of wrenches and picked up 2 pairs of 3 Ton Jack Stands The question is, will these do?

They had a pretty good deal on them at HF and I don't want to skimp on safety but just curious if these are good enough. I'll have to raise the truck and lower them down onto these and keep them in position. Just wondering what you guys used, other than a lift if you had access to one.
