Godzilla 7.3 Swap

"I’m the perfect combo of dumb enough to try, and smart enough to figure it out. Even still, second hardest part in the whole build.

It took about 50 hours over 4.5 days to build a hybrid of a harness that uses each control module I wanted to use and has integration for each sensor. A little over 300 circuits and about 100 splices.

Most of this was figured out just listening to jazz and cruising though wiring diagrams of each truck, and reading the descriptions of each module system and how they communicate and what takes priority. Nothing pretty about it but it had to be done lol."

Supposedly the gen 1’s parts play a little nicer than the ecoboost stuff too. Some of which I learned in that Facebook “article” or post or whatever, from above.

The fabrication and integration work is certainly impressive, but the end result is not…he spent all that time and money for a net loss of 20HP and 35 lb-ft of torque, while gaining 300lbs of weight.

in your opinion...

much more potential with the 7.3L than a twin turbo V6. the aftermarket is embracing it and many cool parts are coming out for it. better oiling, and accessory packaging, intakes, superchargers, anything performance oriented, is being made for this engine..

N/A megazilla coming from Ford Performance.. 615hp, 640ftlbs...

don't see too many people going to the trouble of taking a V8 out, and putting an 3.5L in, do you?

also, where are you coming up with 300lbs? a dressed 3.5L is about 80lbs less than Godzilla, from what Ive read...

3.5L dry 449lbs
7.3L 580lbs listed in several articles..

No. The numbers are not an opinion, it’s a loss of 20HP and 35 lb-ft.

RMB Motorworks would probably disagree with that statement. And there is already a massive aftermarket for EcoBoost engines, far more than the 7.3 at this point. Regardless, the guy who did the swap did not install a supercharger, nor did I see it mentioned.

Plenty of people have done EcoBoost swaps, we have a forum member on here who installed one in an old F-100. The execution was impeccable.

3.5 is 417lbs. 7.3 is 580lbs. So the difference in the engine alone is 163lbs over the nose. The guy used the 10R140 transmission and transfer case from a Super Duty, which accounts for the rest of that weight. That’s completely overkill, but it looks like he got the powertrain as a complete take-out and didn’t have a 10R80 with the correct bolt pattern available to use instead.

Might be sooner than you think. The aftermarket world will do their best to capitalize where they can. Long wait times for R. and (What I see as) dealer greed. Is working in their favor at this point time.

So there's one guy building 3.5L strokers and high performance packages? Are they staying together? Reliability? Does anyone actually know? How many are out in the real world?

And one more guy who did a 3.5L swap on an old truck? Anyone else looking to put a 3.5L in their hotrod, or gen1 raptor? Never really heard of anyone doing it except the guy in here..

Holley, as well as a bunch of manufacturers are making a bunch of parts for the 7.3L. Accessory drive packaging parts.. there's oil pans, dry sump conversions, intakes.. I've never seen one thing like that for the 3.5L.. big turbos are the only thing out there for them..

hoonigan garage is putting one in a 95 2dr Awd drag tahoe.. cleetus is running consistently 8.70s in a Lenco fox body.. consistently and reliably.. no matter who is driving it..

I looked all over the internet for the weight of the 3.5L and all I've come up with is 449lbs..

There are plenty; RMB, Mountune, Livernois, etc. Not hard to find, and they hold stay together just fine. They’re fully forged short blocks. Not sure why are you so skeptical.

It was simply an example. EcoBoost swaps are everywhere, just google it.

Are you kidding lol? There is huge aftermarket support for EcoBoost platforms, many in addition to the companies mentioned above. There’s constant discussions on here about mods; turbos, manifolds, HPFPs, etc.

417lbs is straight from the OEM, Ford.
