Raffle Donation
• Proceeds of the raffle funds will be donated to the Kathy A. Janssen Foundation
•The donation will be made under the Corporation/Organization name “2014 GLRE Time Attack”

We at GLRE have choosen a Charity to donate the raffle proceeds to. This charity is the Kathy A. Janssen Foundation.

Some of you may ask why this charity. Kathy was a friend of Heathers and mine. She was very involved with High School Athletics specifically ski racing which Heather and I are also involved with.

After her passing her children (Who we still ski race with) set up a foundation in their mothers name to help raise money that is donated back to certain things that where important to Kathy.

#1 Cancer Research
#2 Helping those who cannot afford all the extra cost or uncovered cost of cancer treatment
#3 The combination of Education and Athletics.

GLRE has donated swag and other items to an event they did in March to help raise money and we figured this would be a positive next step.

Below is more information about Kathy A. Janssen Foundation.

Description
In memory of Kathy and to fulfill her expressed wishes, the family has set up the Kathy A. Janssen Foundation. The Foundation will provide financial assistance to causes that captivated Kathy during her life. Specifically, the Foundation will create a scholarship to advance secondary education opportunities at Lakeland High School, assist uninsured/under-insured cancer patients with treatment costs, and fund cancer research efforts and/or endowments at the University of Michigan.

LHS: Kathy's involvement with LHS dates back to Kris's freshman year of high school in 1998 when she became an active member of the Booster Club. In the 15-plus years since, Kathy served in a litany of volunteer positions at the school. She managed the boys soccer program for 13 years, chaired the Senior All-Night Party three times, led coordination efforts with the skiing programs for 15 years, was the class sponsor of the 2013 senior class, and served as the Booster Club President for over 10 years. Based on these volunteer efforts and many, many more, Kathy was inducted into the LHS Hall of Fame as a Lifetime Eagle, the most prestigious designation at the school. During her Lifetime Eagle acceptance speech, Kathy reiterated her long-held aspiration that all LHS students have access to educational experiences following high school graduation. She also noted the strides that LHS had made in terms of educational and extracurricular opportunities over the course of her involvement with the school. To improve these opportunities even further, the Foundation will award a scholarship annually to a senior at LHS.

Cancer Treatment Costs: Kathy was fortunate to be treated by some of the best cancer doctors in the world over the course of her two battles with the disease (University of Michigan, MD Anderson, and Johns Hopkins). While being thankful that she had access to these resources, Kathy often expressed concern about cancer patients who were not so lucky. As Kathy can attest to, aggressively fighting cancer often comes at steep monetary cost, not all of which is covered by even the best insurance plans. The Foundation will fulfill Kathy's desire to assist cancer patients with treatment costs by helping uninsured/under-insured cancer patients pay for medical expenses or other costs not covered by healthcare insurance.

Cancer Research: In December 2000, Kathy was diagnosed with Triple Negative Adenocarcinoma. This specific type of cancer is particularly difficult to cure and has a correspondingly low survival rate. Kathy valiantly defied these numbers for over a decade, but was again diagnosed with Triple Negative Adenocarcinoma in June 2012. Even though she knew cancer research efforts would never have a meaningful impact on her chances of survival, Kathy regularly commented on how Triple Negative Adenocarcinoma could benefit greatly from continued and additional research. In view of Kathy's ties to the University of Michigan, the Foundation will provide monetary support to cancer research and/or endowments at the University.
