Currently trying to figure this out myself. I think I want a tall rack so I can also use it for kayaks, but the low profile options would be better for dynamics and fuel economy... Still, I think I've convinced myself to go tall.

My current top 2 solutions are a Snugtop cap with a RTT on it, or a Nuthouse rack with RTT. Nuthouse sells a Retrax-like tonneau, so unlike the awesome Leightner rack, you can still have a covered and locked bed.

I've never been a cap/topper fan, but a nice one with a decked setup and RTT seems like one hell of a nice overland setup.

Thats the biggest problem I have, how to store and carry my longboard surfboard on a rack and make it work with a RTT. This is a guy I follow on instagram @Shark_toof . I like his set up, but I'm not sure I want a shell. His shell is an ARE. I don't know what kind of rack it is. Difficult decision and expensive if you make the wrong one.

If you're going off road you'll always be better off keeping as much weight as low as you can. For example, the RTT above is really well placed - nice install! - as it keeps the weight low and will minimize it's affect on the trucks handling on an off road.

If I was going to carry a RTT and a surfboard I'd look at putting the RTT up a little higher leaving enough room under the RTT rack for the surfboard just above the bed cover.

Ya weight is an issue and I want to use this truck the way its meant to be used and not load it down with a bunch of crap.

I am probably going to have to work with my shaper friend to design a shorter "longboard". That would solve a lot of problems.
