Gen 2 OE rear shocks on gen 1

Alright Guys, I have mounted my GEN 2 rear shocks. The ride so far is excellent, it feels a lot less sloppy then my GEN 1 shocks with 85k on them. Install was fairly easy as described by some of the pervious posts. I will receive my fronts today and let everyone know how it goes.

Rear shock Measurements:

Gen 2 :
From eye to eye: 31" overall fully extended
Shock body: 17.5"
Piston Length: 12.25"
Fully compressed: (as much as I could force the piston into the body) 10"

Gen 1:
From eye to eye: 29" overall fully extended
Shock Body: 16.5"
Piston Length: 12"

My Get 2 front shocks should be in today. I will let everyone know how that install goes and how I did it. I plan to use the Gen 2 shock, with the Gen 1 top hat and spring.



When you take off your gen1 shock can you measure tophat to eyehole then same on the gen2 setup

I have a feeling it's over 2 inches maybe 3. With a 1.5 (tophat) spacer the upper a arms will crash into the coil spring at full drop and will eventually kill your cv's if any offroading is done. Street driving probably never a problem, mainly because 4x4 it never engaged.

Anyways seeing is believing, once you get g2 shocks installed and all buttoned up, let the front fully extend and you will see the problem with the upper a arm

I will get those measurements. I think your right, its more than likely going to be close. I will have to cross that bridge when I come to it. If that becomes an issue I'm hopping some aftermarket UCAS will be the solution

all the Gen2 rears are getting sold on Ebay like hot cakes....... wonder how many here that said they wont work are also buying them. lol

with the Gen2 front..... why put a 1.5 spacer at the top? There is absolutely no reason for it to start with. if you think you need to level the front by doing this, that is incorrect.

the issue is going to be the spring on the drive shaft......... this is what we are trying to work out.

No, with a GEN1 front shock and 1.5 spacer (not gen2).... some people do this to raise the front rather than going to mid perch. when it is done this way, the ride is extremely smooth, however, because the overall length of the shock is 1.5 inches longer...it creates big problems. namely it will kill your cvs in 4x4 because of excessive angle at full drop.

with a gen2 shock on a gen1, i think you will get a (top perch) ride height, however due to the length it will kill the cvs

*still waiting on gen1 vs gen2 shock length measurements to confirm

I don't have GEN 2 front shocks, but here is GEN 1
Extended - 26.9 inch
Compressed -19.75
Stroke -7.15

I have swapped the rear to Gen 2 -3.0 shocks. My install was straight forward. The eyelet to eyelet length Extended G1-29.5 G2-31 (1.5 longer)

I did notice that the Gen 2 shocks allowed an extra 3/4 to 1 inch of droop on the rear axel. With the 2.5's removed and the axel hanging under its own weight, I measured from the fender lip to axel centerline and sure as shit it was 3/4 inch further out then with the 2.5's attached. With 3.0 allowing this extra droop, its a small gain at least

I barely had to compress the 3.0 to align the shock bolt.
Ride height is maybe 1/2 inch taller.

I was not able to cycle the suspension to full bump as I ran out of time.

I installed the Gen 2 rear shocks today on my 2014 Gen 1 raptor with 49k miles. They ride much better than my worn out original shocks. The installed length of the shocks is 23 3/4 inches compared to the installed length of 25 1/2 inches on the rear facing shock on the passengers side and 25 inches for the front facing shock on the drives side my wife's 2018 Gen 2 raptor. The measurements are from the edge of the top bolt to the center of the bottom bolt. I thought everyone might want to know that the shocks are compressed more on the Gen 1 when installed. The measurement from the ground to the rear fender flare is 43 1/2 inches on my Gen 1 with the new shocks installed.

I’ve got half the install done on the front. Drivers side is in with the gen 1 spring and gen 1 top hat/ shims. No clearance issues full extended. I will post pictures later. The UCA is close to the spring when fully extended but I could still fit a finger in between.
