Gen 1's had the torsion as an option later on as well, think 2012 onward. If the all wheel drive works in the gen 1, there will be even less reasons to upgrade from a gen 1 as well, ha ha.
Thats been my feelings as of late. Between the forthcoming TC upgrade and now the availability of E-click for Gen2 Live Valves, its starting to feel like a brand new rig!

Edit: I forgot to add that the paddle shifters are really fun with the 6R80 as well.

With a new Raptor being over 2 times the original asking price of mine, it's a no-brainer for me to keep updating my gen 1 as parts break or fail. Anybody new getting into Raptors could upgrade a Gen 1 with some nice amenities for between 5-10k to modernize it. I won't do the AOD conv until mine gives me a reason to, but it makes perfect sense to change it up if it fails, why put the same old type back in.

I agree with all of the above, plus I fell in love with the Gen1 when it came out and worked my arse off to get one. Its more nostalgia/sentiment at this point but I still love it.

Is there a thread on what Gen1 to Gen2 upgrades everyone has done? If not we should start one. (Edit: I guess the "What have you done to your Raptor Today" thread qualifies somewhat)

That's a great idea, but we will have to put up with a certain member saying "the gen 1 is outdated and that 6.2 is a dog compared to the v6" , "it will never compare to the superiority of the ttv6" :rotflmao: :buttkick:

Instead of what have you done… it could be what gen 2 or gen 2/3 parts are compatible. Idk just tossing ideas out lol

Sooo what y’all are saying is to wait and find out if the aod from a gen 2 works vs just getting the older tod tc? Would the awd work like the 4a on a switch? :hmm: … im a bit slow on this type of technical stuff lol
I'm still trying to understand how the transfer case knows the front wheels have traction and not to engage the front driveshaft, thought wheel sensors would come into play, but maybe it's just clutches inside the TC.

Correct, basically for Gen2 it is a traditional Ford TOD/AWD case in 4A (wet clutch based to allow some slip) with the added bonus of 4 Hi/Lo acting like a traditional 4WD Case (Mechanical Dog Clutch that locks teeth)

I think its a great idea as well :headbang:

From a previously posted article in this thread on the Gen2 case:

"The clutch-based system allows an automatic electronic engagement or disengagement of the front driveline based on an algorithm and what the traction demands are. It'll look for rear slip and that will send torque to the front when it's required"

Dont get wrapped around the axle -haha... 4a is not like 4hi where 4 hi is locked in. With the clutch, its variable power to the front drive shaft. most of the power is still going to the rear. The Youtube video I posted a few days ago explains it pretty well. Most higher end "awd" cars have a similar setup.

Woops, I will edit to add in 4A to the first part as that is what I was trying to imply and differentiate between on the Gen2 Raptor specific case compared to earlier Ford TOD/AWD.

Nice pun BTW
