Not sure about the older Toyota tundra and Raptor Gen 1, but I test drove and looked at Tundra , Silverado and Ram before buying my 150 couple months ago. The Tundra interior looks the same as the one 10 years ago . Reliability, a friend of mine has a 2015 Tundra, Seems like he doens't have to do anything beside oil change and normal maintenance ever since; so reliability is probably good.

I had a 16 Tundra TRD off road before I bought my 2014 SCREW. I was looking at the TRD Pro the same time I was looking at Raptors. Saw the crash testing on the Tundras and said nope (I have 2 little ones). After test driving the Raptor I was sold. Hands down best truck I’ve ever driven. Doesn’t even compare to the Tundra. My Raptor is older than my then new Tundra and felt much more dated. Go with the Raptor. You won’t regret it. Good luck in your search.

Another thing to consider if you like working on things are how easy they are to work on when they break. Check out the starter placement on the Tundra and imagine trying to change that out....

I would go with the Raptor every day. They are very reliable and well built. They are also not as hard to do maintenance on if you would like to do it yourself based on motor layout. I don't think you would regret the Gen 1 Raptor purchase either, but probably would the Tundra, knowing you could have had a Raptor. I know I did when I had my last F150 the whole time...

Good luck in your decision.

right?! when I seen the crash tests I couldn't believe Toyota gets away with selling that ******* garbage. I'm about to become a Dad any day now (wife is 39 weeks) and I'm glad I have a safe vehicle above all else for my family.

I take it you have a Gen 2 Willis?

Safety seems to come up a lot. Maybe that’s what’ll do it for me. I drive on pretty harsh roads, especially in the winter, it’s nice to have that piece of mind

Do you know if it’s more difficult to find parts for the Raptor if something does happen in the future? Especially the Gen 1, I’m afraid if I hit a deer or wreak a control arm it’ll be difficult to replace in a few years

lol... parts are easily available, OEM has to stock parts for a min of 10 years if stock is what you only want. plus you have ADD, SVC, RPG, Camburg, Dirt King, ICON that all manufacturer parts as well.

don't worry about parts... hell I'm currently looking at updating my Gen 1 front and back to a Gen 2, ADV and McNeil both make fiberglass body work so us gen 1 owners can give the truck a fresh look. so you see, the list is endless for who to get parts from.

This might have already been said but if you are going to post this question on a raptor forum then know you will get raptor biased responses. Maybe you already have, but I would post the question on a Tundra forum as well just to get “the other side of the story”. I don’t think the Toyota reliability questioning is warranted. They have been consistently the highest rated in consumer satisfaction and for good reason. Not knocking the raptor at all. Just give credit where credit is due. I have 140k on my raptor with no issues. Also have 100k on a sequoia with no issues and have had Toyota’s in the past with 300k and no issues other than maintenance. It’s a good question you ask and I applaud your due diligence.
