What happens to the TMPS sensor in whatever is the spare you are not using? Does the truck recognize it is not being used and not show it?

correct....there is no sensor near the spare, and something with prolonged rotation is what activates the TPMS sensor to report to the truck its values. Since there are no batteries in the TMPS sensor, it uses some form of kinetic energy to power the device.

Tire pressure monitoring sensors are usually powered by a 3-volt lithium ion battery.

Some TPMS sensors use a 1.250-volt nickel metal hydride battery. The battery is encased in the sensor's molded plastic housing. A battery that is running low on or is depleted requires the replacement of the ENTIRE TPMS sensor assembly.

They last 7 to 10 years.
